Has your garden ever suffered damage from severe winds? Here is a tip to turn a wrecked metal gazebo into a stylish garden trellis.

These Garden Trellis Ideas are simple to build, look great and helps the environment by keeping old garden accessories out of the landfill.

As you can see on the right, a new metal gazebo is made up of four corner panels, joined by metal bars across the top, and covered with a canvas roof.

The wind-damaged gazebo can be seen above. When the winds hit the cover was off for the winter, but the force of the winds weakened the top bars where they were screwed into the panels.

I considered trying to straighten out the crossbars but was worried that they would simply snap. The other option was to strengthen the weak points by welding on reinforcement bars. However, with no access to welding equipment, I felt that the repair cost would likely exceed the replacement cost.

Then I had a brainwave - the corner panels are very stylish, form a right-angle so are self-supporting, and would look great in the garden.

Garden Trellis Ideas: The Back Garden

The solution was very simple to build. All I had to do was to unscrew the roof support bars, use a hacksaw to cut the cross bars and, voila, four new garden trellis frames!

The photos to the right show how the garden trellis frames look in the garden.

In the back garden, where I have created a bird-friendly habitat, I used them to support sunflowers and added hummingbird nectar feeders.

Garden Trellis Ideas: Framing the Front Entrance

In the front garden, I used one garden trellis frame on each side of the front door to create an attractive entrance..

Nestled behind holly bushes, I have planted honeysuckle and clematis plants which should fill out over the next few weeks and months.

Another great idea for repurposing. I'm glad to see so many people on here trying to keep material out of the landfills.
