Genesis 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw Review

Updated on November 30, 2013

Genesis are not exactly the best known name when it comes to miter saws and to be completely honest the only reason that I bought mine was its price, it comes in at about half of what you would pay for one from a big name manufacturer. That being the case I really wasn't expecting that much when I bough my Genesis GMSUDR15L. In the end I was pleasantly surprised with what I got.

Obviously as a saw at the low end of the market the Genesis is not going to come with all the bells and whistles, although it does have a fairly decent laser guide, what you do get however is a good basic miter saw that is ideal for most DIYer's.

The saw has decent power and it runs fairly smoothly. The main attraction for me is the cutting capacity. It is a sliding miter saw so it can handle cross cuts of up to 12 inches which is pretty standard for this type of saw.

The Genesis is far from perfect as you would expect from a saw at the bottom end of the price range. You are going to want to buy a new blade when you get the saw, the one that comes with it is not good at all. I would also be concerned about the durability if you use it a lot, it does seem a bit on the flimsy side, I really doubt that a professional contractor would ever consider buying this saw but really that is not who it is intended for.

I have had my Genesis miter saw for a few years now and have been quite happy with it. Recently I upgraded to a Makita but that was more because of a need for a 12 inch model than it was because of any problems with this one. If you are looking for a good quality miter saw at a reasonable price and are not to concerned about things like brand name this is definitely one to consider.

I would highly recommend that if you are going to buy a miter saw that you also a get stand to go with it, you will find it makes things so much easier. As with their saws Genesis make a good basic stand that does the job well.

You are going to want to get a better blade than the one that comes with the saw, this is a good option at a decent price

This is another decent low cost option that you may want to consider
