Give your room a vintage flare with Edison style light bulbs
I saw these retro style light bulbs in, believe or not, a display at our local JCPenneys department store. I thought, how cool would these bulbs be in our bedroom where we don't exactly need the intensity of noon daylight to get changed.
After a little searching on Amazon I found that this style of retro light bulb used in the JCPenney display were called an "Edison" type bulb. They were named after their characteristics that closely mock the original Edison light bulbs with the hand-woven filaments, smoked glass finish, and tip used to evacuate air from the bulb.
The bulbs come individually rapped in a cool vintage style box labeled "Brooklyn Bulb Company" It would be very cool if they were actually made in the USA but alas they were manufactured in China........maybe Brooklyn China? The light bulbs are very sturdy looking and modern in construction with many supports in place to keep the filament from breaking due to vibration.
These bulbs really make our Casablanca style ceiling fan POP and add a vintage flare to our bedroom with their warm amber glow. I am thinking of adding Brooklyn style bulbs to other low usage areas in our house. I will keep the standard energy efficient CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) bulbs in areas of high traffic where the lights are often on or where the bulb is hidden with a defused cover. I highly recommend these bulbs to anyone wishing to give a hip retro feel to a living space. They are a perfect complement to any style of interior design, whether vintage or contemporary.
