Guest Bedroom Decorating Ideas
How To Make Them Feel Welcome
A guest bedroom is different than the other bedrooms in your home. Why is this you might ask? Because as the name implies this is a room set aside for a guest in your home. That means the person or persons using this room will be away from their own home and missing many things they take for granted there.
So whether you are designing a guest bedroom in your new home or are remodeling a guest bedroom in your home we will share with you some basic elements that you should consider to create an inviting and welcoming guest bedroom.
A good way to look at your guest bedroom would be to think back to the last time you stayed in a nice hotel room away from home. If you think about and can create a mental picture in your mind we will walk through the elements that were probably in that room and then go into more depth on each as to why you want these same elements in your guest bedroom.
If you stayed in a welcoming hotel room then you saw the following elements present. A convenient desk or writing table is present in every room as is a comfortable chair with good reading light nearby. The room probably had a TV positioned so you could view it from the bed as well as from the reading area. There was the usual hopefully comfortable bed complete with extra blankets in a convenient location.
The room décor began with warm maybe even serene colors as well as nice art work or maybe even wall graphic decals. This room was completed with a well-stocked bathroom giving you everything you would expect to have available at home.
So let's talk a little bit about each element of this room and why you should consider including each in your guest bedroom.
Start With The Right Color
Let's begin by covering the possible options concerning the color scheme. This is a very important element in your planning since it sets the mood or feel of the room. The color blue is known for creating a feeling of serenity, after all blue represents both the sea and the sky. Blue is commonly used for both wall colors as well as decorating items in the room. When selecting a shade of blue it is helpful to know that deep blues promote sleep while lighter shades are more lively and bright.
Green shades are another popular option as green evokes the calm of nature and healing. Using several shades of green in a room will create an inviting feeling of nature. In Feng Shui green creates feeling of healing, growth, and peace.
White still tends to be the most common color used for walls in a guest room because this color allows you to bring other colors into your palette to create your own room feel. Shades of gray for wall colors and decorating elements are also becoming popular but be sure and include some color in the room to create a sense of balance.

A Comfy Chair For Reading
Make sure your guest has a private quiet place to relax and read a book if they like. Everyone likes some private time and your guest will also want to give your family some family time. It is a commonly missed fact that many guests feel like a burden when they have to constantly ask for thing they are used to having at home.
Find a comfy chair that will fit the décor of your guest bedroom and set it up with a handy reading light so if your guest feels like sitting up late at night to read they will not feel like they’re disturbing your family. If room allows it is a good idea to install a small flat screen TV mounted on a swivel wall mount so it can be viewed from both the bed and reading area.
