Home; after the fire

Updated on March 20, 2012

On July 1st 2011 my home was in a major fire. Now I am back in my house and starting to get it looking like home again. I am delighted with the open-plan kitchen, the lovely granite and tile - and love the newness of it... however, the newness has an emptiness to it.. so its a home looking for a soul.

The soul will come with being lived in; rather like our bodies. So, I am creating a new soul for my home with each day I live there, and each item of furniture or nick-knack I lovingly add.

I miss the old home though. After all, its where the last of my 4 sons were raised, where laughter lived (and tears)... where we had children's birthday parties, graduation bashes, hundreds of sleep-overs and a pile of shoes at the door...

I loved the old home. I loved how it had cared so much that it kept us warm and cool; that it was usually always receptive to our needs... and I really grieved after the fire.

But now, like life, there is a new birth, a new home and a new start. The children are grown, and its time to put away childish things.. so the home has a new 'classy' appearance.. and so we move on.

I hope you like my brand new home ~ just waiting to be filled with love and life!

Excellent photos. I am so pleased you are back in your home. I like the openness of design; the recessed lighting that adds to the soft, modern design; and the soft browns and cream colors offset with black as a contrast are attractive. I can imagine you will also have many peaceful moments in the Lanai. :-)
