Breyer Collectible Horses
The Breyer figurines in resin or pewter, or the few in crystal, are truly pieces of art. These limited edition pieces are produced from molds, but finished by hand, a process requiring about twenty artisans. Their claim is no two horses ever are identical.
If buying collectibles, be careful. Breyer also makes toy horses intended for play. The words “limited edition” would indicate a collectible.
Displaying a Collection of Horse Figurines
A collection of horse figurines can easily be displayed on a mantle or decorative table. Other methods of displaying them include in a shadow box mounted on a wall. This method has the advantage that, if a glass front is included, dust will be less of a problem.
Proper Procedure for Keeping the Value
Like any collectible, authentication is important. Retaining the box and certificate of authenticity is crucial to value retention. If ever the piece needs to be sold, the inclusion of such “extras” should enhance the value.
Difficult to Find Pieces
Breyer produced limited edition pieces, and when that edition has reached that limit, it is retired. Finding retired pieces is harder than finding others. A list of retired pieces is kept on the Breyer website. Thunderstorm is the beauty that shows up, a stunning black horse. I can see why it would sell out.
