iRobot Robotic Vacuum

Updated on September 20, 2014

Roomba Introduces his iRobot Family

Meet the homehelper robots, introduced by Roomba, the original of the iRobot home helpers who cleans your floors while you sleep.

Greetings earthlings! My name is Roomba and I come from the planet iRobot.

Forget the Jetsons, for that was just a silly TV show. But did you ever wish you had a robot maid like the Jetsons did? That is why we were created, to make your life easier.

Each of us is powered by a rechargeable battery, so you don't even have to feed us anything but electrical juice. Just empty out the dirt we pick up, plug in to power and we're all good to go for the next cleaning job.

Maybe best of all...we all are made in USA products!

iRobot ROOMBA Sweeps and Vacuums

Roomba is the reason you can get rid of your noisy vacuum cleaner and never do that job again! Just turn me on and I'll roam all around sucking up every speck of dust and dirt. Your pets might freak out at first, but eventually they'll get used to me.

Stick around the first few times I work in your house to prevent anxiety and attacks from animals and young children who are not used to having a robot in the house. I'm a precision tool and you will need to prepare your household for my presence. Pretty soon the kids and animals will be crazy about me. (See videos below.) They should be, since I'm cleaning up their messes.

Braava is the newest and most popular home cleaning robot.

  • Compact popular robot floor cleaner! Runs up to 3 hours on a single charge.
  • Uses microfiber cloths or most brands of disposable cloth
  • Turns itself off when finished
  • Low maintenance
  • Whisper-quiet
  • Cleans any hard wood surface, including vinyl and laminate
  • Guided by navigation
  • Rated #1 among robotic vacuums on amazon

Watch Dirt Dog in Action - Dirt Dog is designed for heavy duty cleaning in spaces like garages, workshops, etc.

iRobot DIRT DOG Cleans the Garage Floor

We leave the macho heavy duty cleaning up to Big Daddy. He does the heavy duty work like cleaning shop floors. Dirt Dog can even pick up small objects like nuts and bolts while he cleans, so he is perfect for your garage or workshop floor.

Dirt Dog is Heavy Duty! Designed for workshop and industrial use, this irobot picks up dirt and debris, nuts and bolts...so YOU don't HAVE to. Dirt Dog is smart enough to navigate underneath workbenches, etc. High-speed, counter-rotating brushes grab trash floor surfaces and capture it in an oversized, bagless bin. When the bin is full, you simply snap it out, dump it in the trash and snap it back, then recharge Dirt Dog for the next cleaning job.

iRobot VERRO Cleans the Swimming Pool

If you have a swimming pool then you'll want Verro around to clean that. That's our mom, and she just loves to swim and be around water. Just toss her in the pool and it will be clean in no time while you are off doing something else. She's so happy when she gets to swim that she doesn't even consider it work.

Verro the swimming pool cleaning robot was released in 2007. Just drop it in and let it GO. Verro uses a self-contained vacuum, pump and filter system. Verro will remove leaves, hair, sand, silt, pollen, algae and bacteria as it deep cleans surfaces and pool water. Economical to use and reduces pool chemical consumption, Verro also reduces the run-time of your pool's filtration system. It requires no bulky hoses or booster pumps.

iRobot LOOJ Cleans the Gutters

No one cares for cleaning the gutters, so our baby brother Looj was created for that purpose. Just like that luge in your Olympic games speeds down the track, our little Looj speeds down the track of your gutter leaving them clean as a whistle in no time.

Looj the gutter-cleaning irobot moves both forward and backward. The 3-stage auger spins in both directions. You control the direction of the robot using the wireless handle/remote. The 3-stage auger makes sure that Looj covers your entire gutter and propels debris away from your house.

Watch Looj in Action: the Gutter Cleaning Robot - Interview and Demo with the Inventor

While this appears quite impressive, a few limitiations noted are:

*works well at cleaning loose leaves, not so well with mud and sludge

*battery needs a recharge frequently or else drag around a cord

*ladder needed and must be repositioned frequently

What's Next? A Grass Cutting Robot?

YES!

A grass cutting robot

"A lawn-mowing Roomba-like robot, yep. Meet Lawnbot. ==>

While robotic lawnmowers have been available since around 2000, reports of their usefulness has been mixed. One negative is the required beacons or wires to be embedded under the turf to establish barriers. iRobot's new mower bot might do something similar, but the patent indicates GPS or some other form of wireless tether has been considered.

"The robot home done well is going to give you more control and opportunity in your life."

— Colin Angle, CEO, iRobot Corp.

@TonyPayne: Maybe not, but the Dirt Dog is extra heavy duty! Yes, since they are smaller than a full size vacuum they do need to be emptied more frequently. Still a big time and work saver.

I used to have one of these and they are good for everyday cleaning of food crumbs and for keeping pet hair down, but they probably will never be a substitute for a full size vacuum cleaner. They do have a place though, but you have to remember to empty them regularly.

I've put off getting a Roomba, because I need a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. But I recently heard that Roombas now come with them.

I used to have a roomba when my son was very young. I kept my roomba in the store when my son learn how to throw his toys all over the house. Now, I am back to the normal vacuum cleaner. Nice lens, lensroll to my vacuum cleaner lens.

I hadn't heard of this type of robot for years and thought that they weren't being manufactured yet. I would love a whole fleet. Imagine the time we'd all have for Squidooing!
