For starters, here are a few bright and pretty accent pieces that will please children.
If you're looking for something a little more sophisticated for tweens or teens, check out the setions that follow. They'll work well not only for older offspring, but for adults, as well.
Other items, that you'll see later, should have a special appeal to younger chilren.
Lots of different bright 3D creatures swim around on the outside of this wastebasket.
Here' a very inexpensive choice, if you just want to give this theme a try, but don't want to spend a whole lot of hard earned dollars to do so.
These Cuties Make Kids Smile - They're Clownfish
Although tropical themes have always been popular for powder rooms, today, with more and more homes giving the children their own bathroom, nautical themes for youngsters are increasingly popular.
Perhaps this is due in part to the wildly successful movie, "Finding Nemo." Children were really taken with the movie, in which the title character is an orange clownfish, like the one on the right in the above picture.
You may be interested to know that, though they are a bit less common, there is also a black striped variety, like the one at the left in the picture.
To see them in the wild, you can choose to go to the Indian Ocean, or Australia's Great Barrier Reef. They don't live in the Atlantic Ocean at all.
Rainbow Fish - Bath Accessories Suitable for All Ages
I think this design line is my favorite! The colors are just lovely, and the 'waves' that have been sculpted into some of the items to give the illusion of water are a very clever idea. The colors are just right for a clean and fresh look, too.
The artwork, which almost has a watercolor feel to it, contributes to making this one of the prettiest sets with a marine theme that I’ve seen lately.
Best of all, when you have a look at some of the items, I’m sure you’ll agree that they are suitable for tweens, teens, or even adults!
An artistic interpretation of those colorful reef creatures so pretty that it's hard to believe it's a toothbrush holder! Just perfect for children or adults, or even to gerace a counter used by the entire family
This mat is a lovely choice, and will look beautiful on any cvolor floor. That watercolor look that I referenced earlier is quite evident in this particular piece.
A Beloved Aquarium Beauty - Yellow Tang
I've always been a fan of Yellow Tangs, which are popular with aquarium keepers. Since I'm not a keeper of tropical fish, and have never been fortunate enough to snorkle where they live, I've never seen one in the wild. But I sure would like to!
If you introduce one or two into your aquarium, and notice their yellow fading in the evening, don't be alarmed. It will brighten up again in the morning. Yellow Tangs are a brighter hue during the day than they are at night, when they show a brownish color in their middle, together with a white band.
The live around reefs in the shallow parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Many of them are captured off Hawaii, and sold to people for their salt water tanks.
Their cousins, the Blue Tang, live in the Caribbean, and are equally colorful in their own way. I'm happy to have shared the water with quite a few of them on a number of occasions.
Happy Little Sea Creatures - for a Pleasant Bathtime
Here's another selection of items featuring those colorful sea creatures we love to look at. These were definitely (and delightfully) designed with kids in mind. The bright and cheerful colors are just right for making bath time a happy event. The naturally colorful creatures against the blues of the ocean make just the right artistic combination to create a feast for anyone's eyes, but especially those of the young.
The group of items shown here are especially appropriate for a younger child. (For older kids, look above)
These designs are just as cute as can be, and very age appropriate, too. (Isn't that refreshing?) Pick several pieces, just a couple.... or even a nice new shower curtain. All of them are just delightful, and should certainly please little ones.
So bright and pretty, this bath mat is available in your choice of two sizes.
This is definitely THE statement shower curtain for the boy or girl who is crazy about what goes on beneath the surface of the wide blue ocean.
Moorish Idols - Strikingly Beautiful, Difficult to Keep
Another striking dinizen of tropical seas is the Moorish Idol, named after the Moors, in Africa. (Yes, the same ones who invaded Spain centuries ago.) They thought that a person who saw a group of these stunning striped beauties swimming nearby would soon encounter very happy circumstances.
I don't kow if I believe that or not, but seeing them does make me smile. Maybe that's enough - happienss for the moment. They really are pretty enough to brighten anyone's day, I think.
People often buy them to put in their aquariums, but they are apparently among the more challenging fish for a hobbyist to keep alive in captivity, and few survive long term. I've only seen them in tanks on a few occasions, and they really are quite striking.
