Landscape Designing - Ideas for Beautiful Landscapes

Every home is set apart not only by its special or custom look, but also by the lanscape design surrounding the front yard and the backyard.

The landscaping design is very important when we construct a new house or modify an existing one. For those passing by it gives a rough idea about the people living inside. There are no set rules for landscape designing: it should be tailored by the house owner for his own pleasure, reflecting his ideas and thoughts.

There are two major ideas involved in landscape design:

- Landscaping for Aesthetic Pleasure

- Natural/ Eco Landscaping

"A Thing of Beauty is Joy Forever"

John Keats

Landscaping for Beauty

Beautiful things have always attracted people, regardless of what importance they play in our lives. They give a joy in our lives. In landscaping, appearance plays a primary role. The first thing to do is design the landscape in paper or using software. The primary aspects for design are

symmetry & asymmetry.

Symmetrical designs are very formal. They look almost equal in both sides of a particular axis. Humans are attracted towards patterns and order. So, designing a landscape with perfect symmetry and geometry will have a huge impact on the human mind. Asymmetrical designs are informal, and they are loved by artists. Beauty in irregularity also has a huge impact. The designer should be very creative, in order to create asymmetrical landscape designs.

While designing for landscape, one should have an idea about the focus of the project and how to make it more attractive. A fountain, or the entire house structure, can be focal points. All other things should be placed in position as if they point toward these focal points .The climate of the region and the soil should be properly studied before deciding the materials that are to be used.

The living components of the backyard, for example plants, trees and grass, should be selected properly. The colors of the flowers play a huge role. It is advisable to place lighter shades in the foreground and darker shades in the background.

The non-living components of the backyard including the pavement materials, sheds, rocks, and water bodies are very important as well.

Maintenance is key in maintaining a beautiful landscape. Grass and plants should be regularly cut and watered, rocks and other features cleaned, and , of course, your beautiful surroundings should be enjoyed to the max!

Natural Landscaping for the Eco Friendly Folk

Natural landscaping involves landscaping without causing disturbances to the environment. Most landscapers don’t follow this method, as they feel beauty, alone, is the function of landscape design. However, efficient landscaping has a huge advantage over its aesthetic counter-parts.

In order to avoid the disturbances caused to our environment and to maintain the delicate harmony of our natural setting, we can plant native trees and plants in our backyards. The alien species of plants and trees, which most of us use, have spread into our neighborhoods and have caused significant damage. Increased amounts of pollution and intoxication of water bodies are primary concerns.

Efficient landscaping is an art and science. Trees should be properly selected and placed to give shade to us, thus transforming our place of living. Trees can help keep us cool in the summer season. Edible landscaping, by definition, is the growing of plants that can give us vegetables and fruits that we consume in our daily life. In this era of global warming, climate change, and increased pressure on natural balance, it is better to use natural landscaping techniques.

I actually enjoyed your lens on Landscape designs. I have got quite a few lenses myself on shed plans and constructing sheds your other readers may also be curious about.

I love planning my garden. Living in the tropics makes it a constant work in progress as everything grows so quickly.

Dream lanscape involves, and it sounds daft to say it, lots of flowers. No concrete and glass monstrosities, just flowers, foliage and some burbling water.

I have a pond in the back and I want to dress it up more. Maybe extend the area further out. Maybe add a creek bed, a little dry one, a little . . . .
