My Bedroom Makeover -Simple Decorating Ideas Anyone Can Do
How to Decorate Your Bedroom on a Budget
This bedroom makeover was for my son's room and it was much needed. Recently moving into a larger house resulted in a furniture shortage and some mismatched garage sale finds. While they were serving their purpose, there comes a time when you just have to say, "How can I makeover this room to make it more cohesive without spending a lot of money?"
Well that day came and I wanted to share the results. I included the before and after, so that you can see it CAN be done. You don't have to spend a lot of money to put together a plan for remodeling a bedroom if you have a little time and patience. Since we enjoy going to garage sales, we already had most of the items. We really didn't have a lot of money invested in them though and with a little paint... Well you will see, just keep reading and see if you can tell a difference.
Before the Makeover - Can you pick out the garage sale finds?
It's a funny thing that when you take pictures of a room, you start to see things you overlooked before. Not sure why, but it does happen. Therefore it can be a good tool to use before starting any remodeling or redecorating job.
We made a list of all the items we wanted to move out of or into the room, which items needed painting ,or what we needed to buy new. As I said before, we had already purchased many of the items at yard sales and had very little invested in them.
I don't think you will have trouble finding what needs to be painted or redone in the before pictures. Although there are a lot of things we could have done- finding simple, budget friendly decorating ideas for the bedroom was our main goal.
Things You Could Add to a Bedroom Makeover - Everything doesn't have to come from a garage sale...
I really enjoy going to garage sales, so I end up with some unusually good deals. You can still do a simple bedroom makeover without spending a lot of money without going to garage sales. Although we already had our bookshelves, they originally came from Amazon.

Order of Operations for Project Makeover - Sometimes hard to do in order but good to have...
We felt like we needed to figure out our strategy for bringing all of the pieces together in a color scheme that would meet some goals. Now my son is 25 years old and in college, so he wanted to make it clear, he only agreed to the "neon pink chair" because it was wood and could be painted. He will be starting law school soon and having a neon pink chair, well... it's time to get it painted.
So here is our list of putting our decorating plan into action and keeping it budget friendly. Although you will not have the same exact products or room, you can get some tips on how to decorate your bedroom on a budget with some great yard sale finds and a few things around the house.

Going with Neutral Colors
Spray Paint has vastly improved over the years...
"There are some wonderful spray paints available that can used to paint over metal, plastics and of course wood. We used Rust-Oleum for both the office chair and the lamp. The lamp and the metal base of the office chair are painted with a Hammered Dark Bronze and the wood seat of the chair is painted with an ultra coverage flat black.
My son did the painting and I did try to take pictures as he was painting but unfortunately it was at night outside and they just did not turn out. I thought we had enough light but I think I had a setting wrong on the camera.
Anyway it is a great way to completely change the look for very little money, it is quick and really simple. We had less than $5 each in the lamp and office chair, paint and drop cloth included.

Satisfaction of a Completed Makeover - Having a stopping point...
I hope you were able to find some good tips for your next room makeover. We do have a few other things we would like to update in the bedroom but we were pretty happy with the overall changes on this first project. You do need to have a stopping point when you start a small project or it will quickly turn into a BIG one. We had a set plan of what we wanted to do and stuck to that plan, finished and spent very little out of pocket money. Just mainly some time, but time spent working together with your family is time well spent.
Thanks for visiting and again hope your found something you found useful! I will update with more pictures as we make any additional changes.
