Nautical Night Lights

Updated on September 22, 2014

Nautical Nightlights for Throughout the Home

Nautical nightlights make a great choice for lovely and useful decorator touches throughout your home - in bedrooms, baths, kitchens, and hallways. There's something comforting about the sea and the things that we associate with it.

Nightlights are comforting to young children, who may be uneasy in total darkness. They can be a great help for anyone with or fear of the dark. They're also a considerate provision for oldsters and visitors, who may be less certain with their way in the darkness.

Nautical nightlights are a thoughtful touch in guest bedrooms and baths. And, don't forget the hallway where a little light might be helpful, too.

Besides all that, they're really pretty, too!

Lights in the Darkness for Ships at Sea - Powerful Lighthouse Beacons Pierce the Night

Through the ages, lighthouses have been like nightlights for ships at sea. Their powerful beacons pierce the darkest of moonless hights, and show the way to safe harbor.

Lighthouse beacons must be very powerful so that they can be seen at a great distance. The beacon of North Carolina's Oak Island lighthouse is often cited as having the most powerful beacon in the United States. It can be seen for about 24 MILES out at sea!

The distinction of the world's most powerful lighthouse beacon may belong to the Cape Point light in South Africa. It's light can be seen for 39 miles!

A Different Kind of Nautical Lights - Lighted Boats - Christmas Boat Parades

Many communities that are built around the water have floating Christmas parades. Everyone decorates and lights up their boats, and they parade along the riverfront, or through neighborhood canals.

We always enjoy the one that is held near our home!

if you've never seen a Christmas Boat Parade, I hope you'll enjoy one or more of these videos.

Fear of the Dark is Common in Toddlers - And in Some Adults, too

It is fairly common for children to be afraid of the dark. This fear usually manifests itself around the age of 2 or 3, when their imagination is developing. Many parents help to allay their fears by providing a small nightlight of lamp with a low wattage bulb.

Some adults retain a certain amount of discomfort with darkness. Recent studies, including this one, suggest that people who suffer from insomnia also have a higher than average incidence of discomfort with the dark.
