New York Themed Bedroom Ideas
Over 8 million people live in the city that we all know as "The Big Apple". So it shouldn't surprise you to hear that New York is the largest city in the US. The tall buildings, beautiful parks and cool fashions are just a few of the things I love about New York. Show your love for the big city by decorating your bedroom with some cool NY decor and bedding. Or simply turn your bedroom into a more modern urban place to sleep, just like one out of a NYC apartment.
New York City Posters - Easy as 1-2-3
Posters come in handy when you are looking for something specific and affordable. Best of all, you can frame a poster to make it look more expensive.
I like placing posters that are long in width behind the bed because it is the first thing our guests see when they walk in the room. I only place vertical posters on small walls. A vertical poster on a large wall would look lost.
Wall Decals - No more boring walls
If you are looking for another inexpensive wall decor option for the bedroom than wall decals are a great choice. Wall decals can be placed behind a big piece of furniture (like the bed) or on a brightly colored accent wall.
Some wall decals can be a little tricky to peel. You have to have a lot of patience. But believe me, it is worth it at the end. Credit cards help tremendously.
This is one of my favorite NY Skyline wall decals. It even features the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, a couple of stars and the moon. This is something that you may want to use on a large wall.
The Home of Hip Hop? - Graffiti art and more
New York is considered to many as the home of hip hop. And I agree. Graffiti decor can help create a hip hop feel in the bedroom. You can also incorporate posters of famous New York hip hop artists or even wall decals of break dancers.
Wallpaper Mural - What a sight!
Wallpapers make for beautiful accent walls. But I think they look much better in large rooms, rather than a small room. Remember, some wallpapers takes up a lot of wall space and may make a small room look too crowded and smaller than it actually is.
But if you are not willing to part with the wallpaper (which is understandable) than I would suggest keeping the small bedroom looking as simple as possible. For example: no more than two pieces of furniture in the room, little or no wall art, light color on walls and no clutter whatsoever. Well, the no clutter policy goes for any room,,oh how I hate clutter! Sorry.
Leather Furniture - Just too cool
Leather reminds me of the stylish jackets worn by many New Yorkers. Leather also reminds me of the sofas used in many apartments and condos. Lucky for us, you can find just about anything in leather. From a black headboard to a red futon.
New York Famous Buildings - The taller the better...I always say
NYC is known for its tall buildings. Some of the famous tall buildings include the Empire State Building, Twin Towers and the Chrysler Building. Place miniature statues of New York's famous buildings on any piece of furniture in the bedroom.
I would place this on a wall shelf or bookcase.
What About Curtains? - Your windows deserve something stylish too
If you are looking for something dramatic to pair with a solid colored bedding set, then curtains like these will definitely do the trick. I would pair these curtains with a solid red comforter. bedspread or duvet cover. I wouldn't recommend pairing it with a quilt though. A quilt has a more country feel to it.
Silver, white or black would be my other options, if you are looking to create a NY feel in the bedroom. But you can always pair them up nicely with a bright color as well, such as turquoise or lime green
Keep in mind that this only comes with one panel.
NYC Themed Bedding Sets
I could hear the oohs and ahhs now...Choose a NYC bedding set for your bed if you really want to wow your guests. City-like bedding sets are much easier to find online than in a department store. They can be a little pricey though. But I guess that has to do with the quality of the bedding. The better the quality, the pricier it will be. I was only able to find duvet covers and not a comforter set. Which is actually not a bad thing, when you think about it. Duvet covers ARE much easier to wash than a comforter.
New York Throw Pillows - What every boring bedding set craves
Throw pillows like these are great to use when you cannot find any NY bedding sets that you like. Add one or two on a solid colored bedding set or place them on a nice leather chair or futon.
Silver Throw Pillows - "Shine bright like a diamond"
Add a little "bling bling" to your New York themed bedroom with the color Silver. This dynamic color has always made a big fashion statement in NY. A definitely must have in this bedroom. Don't forget, silver pairs beautifully with black.
I have this throw pillow on my wish list. It is hand embroidered with beads and crystals.
Skyline Light Fixtures - Oh how I love shiney bright things
Another favorite of mine. And we all know that NYC has a lot of lights. So lighting would definitely be a plus. Besides, this lens just wouldn't be complete without showcasing these gorgeous light fixtures.
A contemporary lamp that I would place beside the bed. But I wouldn't recommend to placing it next to the bed if you are a bit of a klutz, like myself.
