Nightmare Before Christmas Bedroom Décor Ideas

Updated on August 15, 2017

Decorate Your Bedroom with Some Kooky Nightmare Before Christmas Bedroom Décor!

Nightmare Before Christmas is an awesome bedroom theme for fans of the movie and Tim Burton in general. It's kooky, spooky and festive and there's tonnes of cool accessories for you to choose from. It is also a wonderful way to celebrate your love for one of the most classic holiday movies of all time! I'm a huge fan, which is why I thought I'd save everyone a bit of time, and hopefully money, by collected together all of my favorite ideas for decorating a room in this style.

Read on for all the best Nightmare Before Christmas themed bedroom décor ideas on the net (well they are my personal favorites anyway!).

Nightmare Before Christmas Bedding

First things first, every themed bedroom begins with some appropriate bedding to set the tone. Official Nightmare Before Christmas bedding is in high demand and they haven't made many, so it's pretty rare. If you spot one you like I therefor recommend you pick it up as soon as you can! I've managed to find a really great set right here featuring an iconic scene from the movie: Jack standing tall and proud on the moonlit spiral hill outside of Halloween Town. It looks truly amazing, and I highly recommend it for all Nightmare fans out there.

While difficult to find, there is a veritable treasure trove of Nightmare Before Christmas themed bedding behind the magical doors that are Etsy and Redbubble. Etsy is an arts and crafts sites where mom-and-pop businesses sell their wares, while Redbubble is a site for independent artists and both are crawling with Nightmare Before Christmas fans! One of my favorite pieces is the awesome and bold Jack Skellington head bedding above by artist CanisPicta.

If you are shopping on a budget and don't want to pay for an expensive official piece of bedding, an alternative is to use dark colored sheets (preferably black) to form the base of your bed, and then rely on some decorative pillows to transform it into something that matches the theme. For example, the black and white stripey 'Sin in Linen' comforter fits perfectly with the Nightmare Before Christmas color scheme.

Nightmare Before Christmas Pillows

An easy way to decorate your Nightmare Before Christmas bedroom, especially if you are on a budget and want to use your existing dark sheets instead of buying a whole new bedding set, is with some cute Nightmare Before Christmas throw pillows and cushions. As always, Etsy has a wide variety to choose from, so be sure to shop around.

If you have felt or other spare black and white fabric lying about the house, you can save even more money by making your own Jack Skellington themed pillows! This is a seriously cool idea that can personalize your room in a way that mass produced products can't. I like the pillow produced by the tutorial above - it's a good option for those who are new to, or aren't confident with, arts and crafts, as it is completely no sew! If you do have a sowing machine, you can make even more elaborate pieces in the same style.

Nightmare Before Christmas Wall Art and Decals

Next up, lets make your walls kooky and romantic...

A vital thing to keep in mind if you are planning to paint your walls a different color to match the theme you've chosen is not to choose colors that are too dark. That means no blacks! It might seem counter-intuitive, but very dark colors will make the room look very small and claustrophobic. Instead, opt for a medium gray, purple, navy blue or even striped wallpaper (like this wallpaper). This will provide a great color scheme without making your room look depressingly tiny. If you are going for even a medium shade, I recommend you make sure you have a lot of light sources in the room - scroll down for some fun Nightmare Before Christmas lighting ideas.

It'd be a crime to leave the walls of your room bare as the bone, so spice them up with some Halloween décor! There are lots of great Nightmare Before Christmas wall art and decals to spice up the walls of your nightmarish bedroom, including stickers based on the characters and even quotes from the movie. The quotes are very popular, and in particular if the Sally and Jack romance was one of your favorite parts of the movie, there are lots of romantic quote decals out there!

If decals aren't your thing, why not pick up some cool movie posters to stick up on your walls instead? My personal favorite is the poster featuring the DVD box art, featured at the top of this article, but you can also get a crazy series of poster like the one above that glow under a blacklight. Even if you don't have a blacklight in your room, the bold and funky colors on this poster make it a great wall decoration regardless, in my opinion.

If you fancy being really adventurous with your wall decorating, why not create an amazing spiral hill themed wall mural on one of your walls, like in the video above? It's a lot easier than it looks, especially given the simple and stark aesthetics of the film, and I guarantee you that it will look amazing in the end. It's also a wonderful way of adding a personal touch to the look of the bedroom.

Nightmare Before Christmas Lighting

You can even get Nightmare Before Christmas themed lighting to cast a spooky glow on your room! Plenty of these are available on Etsy, and once again, many of them are completely unique. One of my favorite styles is featured above: a sleek but eerie wood cut lamp which casts shadow puppets of your favorite art and movie scenes on the wall. Pretty cool!

I'm an enormous fan of using fairy lights and more traditionally 'Christmassy' decorations to decorate my room all year round, and this is one of the few themes where you can do that and no one will raise an eyebrow! String lights are an awesome way to light your room, and can be wrapped around bed frames, window frames and around the wall - they are very versatile.

If you love candles like I do, you definitely want to pick up the funky, bright orange 'Pumpkin King' candles on the right. Its a cute little idea that'll bring a smile your face whenever its time to light it up.

Always be careful with candles, and if you don't own your home always get permission to have open flames from your landlord. You don't want to cause the same calamities that Jack manages whenever he isn't careful.

Finish Off the Look with Some of These Nightmarish Bedroom Accessories

Last but not least, it's time to complete your Nightmare Before Christmas bedroom with some fun bedroom accessories that will personalize it to your tastes and make it look truly unique. There are plenty of ways to do this, and I'm a particularly big fan of decorating all the surfaces of my bedroom with lots of cute little figurines. There are a number of Nightmare Before Christmas figurines to choose from, with pretty much all your favorite characters existing in ornament form. My favorite is the dragon fountain ornament by Hallmark above - it's really cool looking, and the neon green slime stands out a lot! You can find this, and many more ornaments, on Amazon.

There are lots of other bedroom accessory ideas out there, not just ornaments. For example, need some cute and spooky storage boxes or jewelry boxes to keep your stuff in? This is a really beautiful one that I definitely recommend - the artwork so absolutely stunning its unreal. You can keep all of your jewelry in this gorgeous vintage felt-lined jewelry box! The coffin shaped box on the right is also pretty cool.

Etsy has many more jewelry boxes out there for your to choose from, and many of them a handmade and completely one of a kind. It's a great way to give your bedroom both a personal touch, and to make it stand out from absolutely everybody else.

I also look the gorgeous grey door knocker on the left. You wont be getting any intruders in your bedroom with the Pumpkin King himself guarding the door! This beautiful piece is sure to be the envy of everyone, and it will give you the Nightmare Before Christmas vibes even before you step into the room, which is pretty cool!

DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Bedroom Accessories

If you are handy with a paintbrush and some glue, you can save a serious amount of money in decorating your bedroom by creating Nightmare Before Christmas props and accessories yourself. For example, above is a guide to creating the iconic Halloween Town sign, which can be used a cool door or wall plaque! I advise heading over to Youtube and checking out the tutorials they have - a lot of them are guides to making Halloween home décor but they work equally well for decorating a bedroom.

A Nightmare Before Christmas bedroom is not just a theme for the Fall and Winter seasons, it can also look pretty cool in the Spring and Summer months, with a bit of tweaking. Flowers, for example, can add lots of light and beauty to a room, especially white roses for this theme. However, you'll need an appropriate flower pot to keep them in, and the tutorial above will teach you how to make a pretty amazing looking Jack Skellington flower pot!

Thanks for Stopping By!

I don't like Tim Burton and I don't think I would like this movie, but these bedroom décor items are really cool, and I love the page layout too. Nicely done.

Nice lens. Great décor for a bedroom, but I don't think I would want to wake up with some of that spooky looking stuff looking at me. Blessed.
