Fall Photos Combined With "Autumn Glory" by Helen Baeseman

I took a stroll and soaked up the beauty of the Fall Trees around the Village Green and around our home in Pendleton, South Carolina. I was able to snap some pictures that I would like to share with you along with a poem by Helen Baeseman entitled "Autumn Glory". I found this poem in one of my Mom's 1968 Ideals Magazines.Thank you for visiting with me today!

Please give this page time to load as it is filled with photos.

Autumn Glory

by Helen D. Baeseman as seen in Ideals Magazine

Autumn Glory

by Helen D. Baeseman

While walking in the woods today,I marveled at the bright array

Of autumn robes the trees had donned

And, oh, how blue the sky beyond!

Could this be real, this fairyland

Of red and gold?

And there I'd stand

Enraptured, far as eye could see,

At Mother Nature's artistry.

The maples wore rich gold brocade'

The oaks wore red, the balsams jade;

The stately elms in jasmine dressed,

As did the willows; and the rest

Were garbed in splendor, one and all,

For their majestic harvest ball.

And underneath, in their cool shade,

Wild asters, ferns and gentians played. In verdant meadows, goldenrodsWere gently swaying' milkweed pods

Were sending forth their snowy down;

Pale flowerets trimmed each mullein crown.

Long rows of sumac, crimson-dyed,

Had set aflame the whole hillside.

Above wild geese in southward flight...

October's sun shone warm and bright.

Then sunset came. A velvet sky

Was tinted with a scarlet dye.

And o'er this red and gold and green

There came a stillness so serene,

As if all nature bowed its headIn worship.

Then I knew who spreadThis crown of glory o'er the land...

It was the Master's loving hand.

Helen D. Baeseman

Fall Leaves and Trees - Display the Rich Colors of Autumn

Photos of Some of Pendleton's Fall Color!

It was the perfect day for my little stroll and I got a lot of wonderful pictures. There were dogwoods, all kinds of maples and oaks, elms, the huge cypress, and the list just goes on and on. The colors were magnificent and every color in the rainbow adorned these lovely trees.Photo: This Flaming Maple was at the Elementary School and I took the picture when I went to pick up my grandson from school this afternoon.

On The Village Green In Pendleton SC - Colorful Fall Trees

The large Cypress just takes my breath away every time I see it on the green. There are several around town and they all are gorgeous. You can see the old Guard House down at the other end of the green.Photo by OhMe

Fall Trees are so lovely - We have many beautiful shades of orange and red around our town

Maple Leaves in the fall

Our Backyard - Filled with Fall Colors

I sit in my rocker on the back porch and know that there is no other place I would rather be than right there at home looking at the beautiful fall colors in our yard.

My favorite photography by John - Thank you, John, for letting me use some of your photos.

John Sitton has enjoyed taking some beautiful photographs of the Fall trees near Millwee Creek. I think this is my favorite. John also took the gorgeous Sunset picture at the bottom of the poem that is on this lens.

We enjoy living on the 18 mile creek - in Pendleton South Carolina

The creek usually floods a couple of times a year but never like it did on July 13, 2013.

I will never look at our creek the same way after witnessing the flood this summer.

Learning Your Trees

I studied Botany in school but have forgotten so much of what I learned and usually have to refer to a book like this one to identify a tree that I am not quite sure of. Oh, I know the common ones but not the various varieties.

When you hike around with your children or grandchildren you will be able to identify the trees by name and teach them so many wonderful things about Mother Nature.

Our Town's 225 Birthday Celebration

Our town will be celebrating its 225 anniversary in 2015 and there are plans to plant 225 trees around town. Isn't that a wonderful idea! Also, citizens can sponsor the buying and planting of 225 daffodils and over 16,000 were sponsored for the fall planting in 2014. This past Spring was so beautiful with all the lovely daffodils in bloom. It was decided to try to get sponsors for another 16,000 bulbs to be planted this fall. Neighborhoods, businesses, individuals, groups, churches, etc. may sponsor. For more information, call Davie Kirkley at 864-646-6291.

It will be a sight to see next spring.

Are you enjoying this beautiful fall? - I would love for you to leave a comment. Thank you!

Would you believe I grew up in Anderson, S.C. near Pendleton! My daddy worked at the old textile mill there. I'm sure it is long gone.

I remember well the beauty of Fall leaves as a child.

      Beautiful Hub.

Beautiful photos! Autumn is late arriving here, but will certainly be out and snapping photos when the trees finally change! I'm surprised at how long this summer has lasted, and am definitely looking forward to the cooler weather.

Nothing in my lens says that your travels have to be around the world. They can be in your neighborhood just as well.

This morning I was astounded when I went outside to go for my morning yard is glorious! As I drove into Pendleton to walk at the Elementary School Track, I just kept drinking it in. Trees are my special loves....A favorite saying, and I can't remember who was the author, is "Be still, my soul. These great trees are prayers." I have many special favorite trees--some of those in Pendleton area are Alton and Lorene Finley's front yard (sugar maples), the dogwoods on Queen Street, the cypress in John and Peggy Acorn's yard, the "avenue" of sugar maples and dogwoods planted by Chip and Jim Ivey on Thompson Road, sugar maples on Perimeter Road in Clemson, the chinaberry at Wayne Link's (this is a real specimen--the largest I have ever seen), the huge white oak between the district 4 office building and the Doghouse where we teachers used to stand during recess, and most of all, the sheltering arms of the big pecan and water oak in my yard.
