How to Make Your Own Poo Pourri at Home

Updated on January 10, 2015

What is This Thing Called Poo Pourri?

Do you have someone in your house that practically lives in the bathroom? And once they are finally done doing their "business" it stinks so bad that you can't go in there for a couple hours? Have you tried all the air fresheners out there and none of them work? Well today is your lucky day, because once you read this article you will no longer have to wait hours or light a match before you can use your own toilet.

You probably think the best choice to a good smelling bathroom after you do your "business" is the most expensive air freshener that Walmart or Target sells. I am sorry to say but you would be wrong. They may work to make your bathroom seem fresher and smell better, but really they only cover up the smell not take it away. They have a lot of chemicals and ultimately they are just making the poo particles smell a little better. So what can you do with the poo?

Thankfully, someone found a way with the product Poo Pourri. While Poo-Pourri is pretty well priced, some people might want to make their own ever-lasting supply of "poo smell be gone" antidote. So, after hours of research and testing, I discovered the recipe and will share it with you below. You will get more for such a little price if you make it at home. So try it out!

How to Make Your Very Own Poo Pourri

Yes, you Really Can Make it Yourself!

Ingredients:

10 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil

10 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

10 drops Bergamot Essential Oil

8 ounces of water

(1) small spray bottle

How to Make it:

Put all the ingredients into your spray bottle. Mix everything up in the bottle. Make sure that you mix everything up very well or you will just be spraying water into your toilet bowl and it will not cover up the stink. Now your Poo Pourri is done, spray the surface of your toilet water 3-4 times with the Poo Pourri. Then do what you need to do.

NOTE: You can use different flavors of oils to make your own smell concoction. Just make sure you use oil, because that is what covers up the stink.

Why Choose Poo Pourri Over Other Name Brands?

Poo Pourri vs Lysol Neutra Air Freshmatic-Lavender Mist

You may be wondering why Poo Pourri is better than other name brand air fresheners. One of the most popular air fresheners is one every household has, Lysol. Below I have a comparison of the two that you should take a look at. There are plenty of things to say about Poo Pourri but I won't bore you so I will only address a few.

Poo Pourri: Poo Pourri is made with essential oils, and is non-toxic.

Lysol: Lysol has lots of chemicals in it that are harmful to you, like propane. That is supposed to go in your car not to freshen up your bathroom, and if you breathe too many gases in at one time, you can get serious problems. Who wants to be a Glue Sniffer?

Poo Pourri: Is used before you go to the bathroom not after. Poo Pourri is meant to eliminate the smell before it happens by trapping it, not covering it up.

Lysol: When using Lysol you are supposed to spray it after you do your business. That is a sure sign that this product only covers up the smell not eliminates it. So you have to constantly spray it until the smell goes away by itself. Also, not to gross you out, but smell comes from little tiny particles of the smelly thing entering the air. By trying to cover it up, you are still breathing in the tiny smelly particles along with the "covering up" agent.......eeeewww.

Poo Pourri: Has a fresh smell that is made with real natural oils. So your bathroom will not smell like a chemically bathroom but nice fresh clean bathroom. Now people will be able to breathe the air after someone else does their business, without having to breathe the nasty smell of chemical and poo. You also spray this in your toilet not in the air like other fresheners, so the stink stays in the toilet and only the fresh Poo Pourri smell comes out.

Lysol: Has an over powering smell that is made of fake natural smells. Like lavender mist is not really lavender but a concoction of chemicals and ingredients that are suppose to smell like lavender. When you use this you have to spray it in the air, so all of those chemicals and smells stick to you and everything in your bathroom and make stuff wet and slimy.

Poo Pourri: Has a travel size so you can take it in your purse no matter where you go. Poo Pourri makes your business smell like it never even happened.

Lysol: It is not very easy to have to carry around in your purse the refill to your air freshmatic, plus the air freshmatic itself.

Those are some of the reasons why Poo Pourri outranks Lysol Neutra Air Freshmatic-Lavender Mist in.

Grammy G, it will cost about $20 (free shipping) for Plant Therapy oils. Each 10mL bottle holds about 200 drops. It will cost you about $1 per 8 ounce bottle of homemade poo-pourrie. Hope that helps!

You'll spend $20 + shipping to get the essential oils. How much of the deodorizer does it make? It make cost more than the original product, or be much less, depending on how much you can make from the oils. Some people add glycerine or denatured alcohol or vodka as a carrier for the essential oils which will help them disperse and coat the surface of the water. That would make this more cost effective probably, but numbers have to be crunched to see if this is cost-effective.

What an idea! Lysol gives me headaches from the chemicals so it is banished from the house. I use an essential oil room freshener elsewhere, but this technique is new to me.
