Got problems with animals that invade your garden? Here is how to scare them away on autopilot.

A simple solution to a big problem

So what exactly is a scarecrow sprinkler and how does it work? In a nutshell, these garden protection gadgets have a motion sensor that immediately triggers a spray of water as the animal approaches.

This works extremely well and is a animal repellent solution that keeps your garden safe from deer to rabbits to birds to the neighbor's cat.

There are two types of these machines: permanently connected to a water hose, or the free-standing portable animal deterrent that requires no hose attachment.

The big image above shows the portable and hose-free Havahart Spray Away Elite which is solar powered.

Havahart also makes motion detect deterrents that are designed for permanent connection to a hose system. less expensive - but requires running water.

The best scarecrow is a portable one.

Move your scarecrow sprinkler wherever you want

If you have a mixed garden with everything from flowering plants, trees and vegetables, then you know that each plant type is vulnerable during different seasons. This means that you need to protect different plants at different locations at different seasonal times.. this is where a hose-free system like the Havahart Spray Away Elite II really shines.

It is very convenient to have a garden protection system that is wireless and which you can relocate wherever you want!

How portable is a motion detector sprinkler?

It is easily moved as long as it is not recently re-filled. The water container has a generous capacity of 3.5 gallons which allows it to function for a very long time without maintenance. To easily move the Spray Away Elite, simply tip the unit and empty the water out. The unit itself weighs under 12 pounds and has no ground attachments so moving it is something anyone can do.

Simply lift it up and move it to another location. Place the unit so the sprinkler head is roughly in the direction you want to protect and make sure the solar panel is not obstructed by leaves. Fill it with water and activate. That's it!

It will now protect a 1900sq.ft. garden area where the most effective region is centered within 35 x 50 feet.

Each activation requires just a couple cups of water and the sprinkler reservoir will probably last the whole summer. Once the battery is fully charged it can power 30 activations during night or cloudy days.

Contech and Orbit also manufacture these kinds of ecological and humane garden pest controllers.
