Pur Water Filters for Refrigerators

Updated on August 30, 2017

PUR refrigerator filters for clean drinking water

Clean water is the most essential factor that determines whether people are healthy or become ill and filtering water is something that most households should do.

Even tap water from the best neighborhoods may contain heavy metals, sediment and taste bad due to faulty lines or unpredictable events such as flooding.

Many modern refrigerators have a water system that provides cool water and / or ice. Regularly changing a fridge water filter is essential for the water to taste well and be beneficial.

The image shows the PUR QTSS Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter which fits fridges from Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana and other Whirlpool models that have a quarter turn base grill mount of the filter (see image).

Whirlpool Fridge Water Filters

These are similar push-button type replacement filters for Whirlpool and KitchenAid fridges. PUR water filters of this type also reduce particulates, lead, and mercury.

The recommended service interval is to change a refrigerator water filter at least every 6 months.

Fridge models and styles change constantly but the basic hardware and refrigerator parts used often have a long manufacturing lifespan.

The good thing with not redesigning everything is that many "under the hood" parts remain the same and are easy to get hold of - such as water filters.

PUR water filters of this type also reduce particulates, lead, and mercury.

This is a refrigerator replacement filter for models that have a water filter that is positioned as a base grill insert. The PUR PBSS Push-Button Refrigerator Water Filter purifies the water of the fridge dispenser and/or ice maker while leaving the beneficial flouride in the cleaned water. PUR water filters have a 100 gallon capacity, or 6 months, whichever comes first.

These replacement water filters effectively reduce benzene, cysts and other contaminants such as lead and also defeats chlorine odors and taste. Fits Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, etc.

18 cub water pitcher with filter

If you have a fridge that lacks a water system then a PUR pitcher or dispenser with built-in water filter offers a cheap and very easy solution.

The big dispenser takes 18 cups (over 1.1 gallons). The narrow build makes the PUR filter dispenser fit nicely onto a fridge shelf and making it easy to pour fresh drinking water directly into a glass.

How does a PUR water filter work?

PUR 7-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher

The filtration is automatic and requires no electric connections. You simply pour tap water into the top section (blue area) and the water slowly filters down into the serving area (bottom clear section).

If the 18 cup counter-top dispenser is too big, or you want a portable water filter, you can also choose the PUR 7 cup pitcher.

It is the same size as a normal pitcher but with the added benefit of effective filtration that provides cleaner, better drinking water.

The 7-cup version filters 40 gallons to a filter. This is a very cheap and convenient way to reduce your intake of harmful water components.
