Beautiful Images of Red Roses in Wales
Beautiful free images of red roses for personal and/or commercial use
I am ever so fortunate that my parents live in a florally abundant area of Mid-Wales. On every corner of every street, your eyes are graced with the sight of picture perfect Welsh gardens, overflowing with flowers of every shape, size and colour. One of the most common flowers is, of course, the delicate red rose. Peek behind an old stone wall, and you'll see a red rose clambering its way into every nook and cranny in a fight to find the light. Gaze downwards into a flowery patch and see the royal red rose as the proud centrepiece to the display. Wherever you turn, a red rose will greet you with its irresistible charm. On this page, you will find a series of beautiful red rose images I have taken during my two month stay in Wales. These roses, with their simple beauty, tell the story of this country's love for gardening and all things flower-related. Please feel free to use these red rose photos as you please, for either personal or commercial use. All I request is that you source and link back to this page.
Let's take a walk along the seashore in Mid-Wales...
Taking a stroll past Jean's garden... - Beautiful pictures of roses planted by an avid 85 year old garden
Jean's garden next doorJean has been my mum and dad's neighbour in Wales for the past four years. An avid gardener even at the age of 85, you will often see her outside, gently pruning her roses, watering her daisies, and even mowing her lawn with the energy of a teenager. I always say to myself that it must be the fresh sea air that keeps her so youthful. In this picture, you can see her red roses flanked by her friendly-looking daisies. I love the contrast between the stark white of the daisies and the blood red quality of the roses.

An interesting fact about red roses
Red roses have had great significance in human societies for thousands of years. The earliest record of red roses being cultivated and appreciated is in ancient Greek, Chinese, Roman and even Egyptian writings. It is said that, for instance, the Roman Emperor Nero would honour his guests by showering them in so many rose petals that some would nearly suffocate.
Turn the corner and find a treasure... - The second red rose encounter on our walk along the seashore
These cheery red roses are the property of the grand-looking bed and breakfast you see off in the distance. This specimen is one of many planted along the cobblestone wall that separates the hotel grounds from the main road.I love how these roses seem to be straining their prickled necks towards the sunshine that has long been absent from these parts. However, without the heavy rain that Wales receives every year, the plants would not be so luscious and healthy as they are now.

A simple garden made beautiful by a perfect rose... - The most beautiful red rose picture in my personal collection
I never knew that perfection could exist in nature, but this splendid red rose comes very close. One flower, already mature, has splayed petals that seem to fan out in a circular fashion, while the smallest bloom is curled up in characteristic rose fashion, just waiting to show itself to the world. I do not think I could have photographed this rose at a better moment. I can imagine that the owner of this rose plant must be very proud.
Now we turn away from the sea, down the main street... - Gardens abound with excellent photo opportunities
I am extremely happy with how this photo of red roses turned out. In the foreground, we have a gorgeous rose plant with fully-formed blooms and long graceful stems. In the background, we see a prime example of a Welsh garden, complete with a radial wooden patio, statues of various goddesses, a carefully arranged barrel of flowers, and an iron-rod bench to complete the composition.

Another interesting fact about red roses
Red roses are one of the earliest forms of body perfume. Back in the Middle Ages, women would carry around bouquets of roses to disguise any unpleasant body odours they might have been emitting. If you had money to spend, you also might have put rose petals or rose oil in your bathwater. Even today, the rose is a popular perfume and body wash amongst women.
Even this red robin enjoys basking in the beauty of red roses! - Isn't he a cutie?
Do you have any red roses in your garden?
Joyous red roses brightening up a grey cement wall - We're almost at the end of the main road...
The wonderful thing about roses, or any colourful flower for that matter, is that they can brighten up even the most dismal of properties. In my parent's town, there are unfortunately a number of dilapidated houses which, in any other country, wouldn't leave a positive impression on passersby. In Wales, however, the Welsh do any excellent job of compensating by producing absolutely stunning gardens. You hardly notice the cracked walls, uneven patio, and missing door hinge when there are vibrant red roses to be gazed at!

Heading to the mountain path... - Red roses that divide their houses from the Welsh mountains
In our town, there is a wonderful path which leads you alongside a field dotted with sheep and their young, the greenest grass you've ever seen, the peaceful Dysynni river inhabited by swans and ducks of all types, and of course, the rolling Welsh mountains, divided into sections by ancient stone walls, bramble and clumps of purple heather. As if to complement this gorgeous view, every house has a perfectly kept garden. In this area, there is no lack of hearty red roses, as you can see from the above photograph.
Here is the view the above rose sees every day. I'm rather jealous!
