Some of the most colorful creatures and life forms on tne planet are found on coral reefs, including the reefs themselves. Some of colors under the sea are so vibrant as to seem surreal. Yet, they are quite real. See for yourself in the dive video include here.

The reefs are also some of earth's most fragile ecosystems. All of them. This page focuses in on reefs at risk in one part of the world.

Bring little bit of that enchantment into your home with just a touch of a tropical reef or a reef fish on your wall in the form of a decorative switch plate.

Leafy Sea Dragon - on a Decorative Switch Plate

The Leafy Sea Dragon is a real - but quite fanciful looking - little sea creature that lives in the ocean off the coast of Southern Australia. He's related to the Weedy Sea Dragon. (See below for more information on these incredible little creatures)

Tropical Fish

Colorful Fish Covers - For Your Double Light Switches

Tropical fish are so bright and colorful that a light switch cover featuring tropical fish will be a bright spot on your will and liven up the room just a little for you. Whether it's a realistic tropical fish switch made from an actual photo, or a fish motif design from some talented artist, a one of these light switch covers is sure to be perfect for a tropical or water themed bathroom d├ęcor

Covers for twin switches lend themselves well to either photos of single fish, like the one shown here, or mixed schools, like on the one below.

Colorful Marine Life for Single Toggles

Anyone who keeps a salt water aquarium probably has had some clown fish at one time.

In recent years, these little reef fish have become quite popular with the general population, especially youngsters. This is, of course, due to the wildly successful film, Finding Nemo, in which the title character is a clown fish.

Here he is, in a real life photo, on a single toggle switch.

Sea Dragons are Related to the Sea Horse

The Weedy Sea Dragon, which is pictured above, is related to the seahorse. They can grow to around 17 inches long. This little sea creature looks a bit like its smaller cousin, the leafy sea dragon, but with less "foliage."

If you want to see on you'll need to travel to southern Australia, and go for a snorkel among some rocky reefs, seaweed beds, or seagrass meadows, which is where they live.

Something they have in common with the seahorse is that it is the MALE of the species who carries and cares for the eggs of their unborn young.

The "Leafy Sea Dragon," which has more leaf-like camoflauge appendages, grows to about half the size of the Weedy Sea Dragon, and also lives off the coast of Southern Australia. Thw switch plate shown at the very beginning of this page features a leafy sea dragon.

And yes, sea dragons ARE fish, as are their cousins, the seahorses.

Fish Outlet Covers

And, now for the electrical outlet covers. Don't forget to include them when you are planning for your bright and pretty new touches for that special room.

You can choose to match all your covers, or simply coordinate them by sticking with the same theme, like under the sea.

Coral Reefs

Reef Single Switch Plate Covers - Coral Reef Decorative Light Switch Covers

Coral reefs are some of the most amazing places on earth. If you've ever snorkeled over a coral reef, you'll know what I mean... They are just teeming with amazing sea life!

If you've never seen a coral reef up close and personal, you may be tempted to think the colors you see on some of these switch plates might not be real. But they are! In fact, reproduction sometimes just doesn't do the real thing justice, but some of these do come pretty close.

Coral Reefs occupy less than 1% of the worlds ocean, but 25% of marine species find homes in them.

The Beauty of an Indonesian Coral Reef

Indonesian Coral Reefs Are At Risk

Coral reefs are some of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on earth. Sea corals are also incredibly fragile, as any experienced diver or snorkeler will tell you. Most who venture into the ocean to see them voluntarily adhere to a strict 'look, but don't touch' policy.

However, that's not true everywhere. Indonesia's spectacular and extensive reefs are in peril. A whopping 82% of the reefs there are rated as being at risk.

Unregulated run off of various pollutants into the ocean are one part of the problem.

One other large factor contributing to the demise of the reefs is a dangerous fishing method called 'blast fishing.' It involves actually throwing explosives into the water. This illegal practice, which stuns fish and destroys coral, is employed by commercial fishermen.

Another part of the problem is consumers. They export it/ We buy it. If there weren't a market for dead coral, there wouldn't be a reason to harvest hundreds of tons annually.

Do your part by refusing to buy real coral for any purpose whatsoever. Encourage others to do the same. Decreased demand means a decreased supply is needed!

Reef Diving Video - See What These Divers Saw when They Went Reef Diving

Some of the fish and other marine life you'll see when you dive or snorkel a coral reef are so colorful you can hardly believe they are real, but they certainly are!

Check out this video to see what some divers saw when they went reef diving off Port Douglas, in Australia.

This is part of the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest single structure composed of living organisms.

That's right - reefs are not rocks and sea plants. They are made up of billions of teeny live creatures or organisms.

Coral Reef Outlet Covers - Plug Electrical Cords into an Outlet Surrounded by Something Pretty

Once again, don't forget the electrical outlet covers.

If you have beautiful plates for your light switches, but leave the electrical outlets with plain ones, they might look a little left out.

When counting up how many you'll need, don't forget the ones that are hidden behind furniture. (You never know when the urge to rearrange might strike.)
