The Best Shower Caddies for Your Home - Apartment - Dorm

Bathroom Shower Caddies Style and Finish

When it comes to bathroom shower caddies, there are so many different styles and finishes, it can get overwhelming.

For men it is probably not one of the most important gadgets for the bathroom, but for women... a shower caddie can either create stress or relieve it. And believe me I have had more than one that created more stress than it relieved! There is nothing more frustrating than getting home with the one you finally decide on (after hours of shopping) to figure out it does not fit or even hold your shampoo!

I am sure there is no such thing as the perfect shower caddie but finding one that works for you is important. There are so many things to consider when buying one, you really need to start with a list. So let's get started!

Okay so we have a list, now what do we do with it?

Shower Caddie Solutions

Finding the answers to your questions...

First you really have to determine what size caddie will work in your bathroom, meaning:

What are you going to put in it?

Who will be using it?

What size will work?

Measurements are more important than you may realize. I know from experience that everyone can not have a corner shower caddie just because they want one. If you have high ceilings, most corner caddies using tension rods will not work. Not to say that there is not some really expensive custom one available...but we usually all have a budget.

Then you have the very common "hanging shower caddie" that fits nicely over your shower head, unless of course it doesn't. Which also happened to me with one that just kept sliding down the shower-head rod because the rod was too small. Then if you are planning on putting shampoo, conditioner bottles or body wash in the caddie, you need to make sure they fit on one of the shelves without interfering with the shower head.

With all the latest craze of body washes designed for men and women, along with the razors, loofahs, and special shampoo and conditioners, we have to have at least "two" shower caddies in our bathroom. Well you can't actually fit two hanging ones over the shower-head, so that leads me to the over the door type shower caddies. They are really cool! They are usually over-sized and have a taller shelf (great for my shampoo & such) and they don't interfere with anything else in the shower!

So this is just a few of the things to consider when you are purchasing a shower caddie! Seems like a lot to consider, hence "The List". Here are some really great examples of the styles we just talked about.

I Love My Copper Shower Caddy! - Fits perfectly over the shower head...

Try as we may, we just can not squeeze all of our shower "stuff" into one spot. As you can see from the picture there is a small built in shelf in the the shower but to be honest, I am not sure it ever really gets used. It is just not large enough to hold more than a bar of soap and maybe a travel size shampoo and conditioner.

So I found this great copper one that I love a few years ago on eBay and although I it has had to be adjusted a couple of times to fit the shower head, it is still one of my favorites. It holds just about everything my husband and I both need most of the time.

Recently when we moved into the house we are in now, we did add an additional one that fits over the shower wall that adds extra space and gives us two towel holders on the outside of the shower. We wanted to add some type of towel rack but there was no wall space that would work so this was our solution.

I looked for a copper one to match the one I already had but soon settled on this one which is brushed nickle. I really don't like to mix them up that much but I needed something fairly quickly and figured I could always change it out later when I found one that matched the one I had. I am sure I can pass this one on to my oldest son.

Check out this Portable Quick Dry Shower Caddy that is Perfect for College Dorms! - These will also work for Room-mates that have to share a bath...

When looking for a shower tote or caddy for the college dorm room, you will most likely want to find one that is portable. If you are in a dorm, you will have to carry it with you from your dorm room to the shower room which is almost always shared.

This is one of the most popular among college students, it is very portable, is available in both blue & pink and has a quick dry feature. You don't want to be dripping water all the way back to your room and of course it helps prevent mold and mildew too! I ordered one for my niece when she left for college a few years ago and after that I started including them in my college dorm gift baskets when someone is headed off to school. I usually try to find out some of the items they use and go ahead and fill it up so they get a head start on supplies. (It's like a little care package for college.)

What You Look for When Buying a Shower Caddy

We all have different opinions when it comes to buying stuff for our homes, some are looking strictly for style while others feel functionality is the most important.

What is the most important when choosing shower caddies?

Corner Shower Caddies - Stainless Steel is a popular choice...

If you determine you can use a corner shower caddie, then going with one that is Stainless steel is a great choice. One because they tend to go with most any décor and can be found easily.

Secondly, they are generally rustproof. Nothing more frustrating than after a month of use, your shower caddie is already rusting. Just be sure to read the specifications and always ask questions if you are unsure about a feature and want to know more. Knowledge is KING!

So many finishes to choose from... - This can be tougher than you think!
