The Magnolia for Winter Home Decor

Updated on February 13, 2017

The Magnolia Is A Wonderful Winter Change Up After Pine Boughs and Holly

The magnolia has many varieties but one thing they all produce is a wonderful big bloom in winter white or the first flush of pinks for spring. Perfect for winter home décor.

The magnolia graniflora is an evergreen that retains leaves all year by dropping them, a little at a time. I have seen a few of these towering over California bungalows, dominating the owner's whole tract home property. This magnolia variety can grow to be 80 feet tall and is prevalent in the southeast of the U. S.

The tree has large glossy dark green leaves with a brown fuzz on the under side. Florist's love to make wreaths with them and add a few of the blooms to brighten the remainder of the winter months.

Landscape designer Deborah Silver notes the long lasting good looks and dual color of the leaves are perfect for decorating. An indoor wreath can last for several seasons if stored properly. Visit her decorating example below in Link List.

I have for you, to browse, Jane Seymour Botanicals, and other striking examples of the magnolia arrangement for the cold weather season. JS Botanicals has magnolia table creations and wreaths. These are the permanent cloth and silk made floral arrangements that would be an investment for many seasons to come.

The picture below is of blooms from a young tree that was barely eight feet high. Now the blooms are too high to get close to.

The light green blooms on this wreath are lovely too.

Tulip, or Japanese, magnolia blossoms are exploding all the way around this 24" diameter wreath. In light green and cream tones, this wreath fits right in with the Chardonnay Collection. For indoor use or in a sheltered outdoor location, avoid placing in strong direct sunlight to keep the colors from fading.

White, pink and with leaves are also available. Look for 24" and 30 " in some styles.

Jane Seymour features new arrangements for each season. Look for her new magnolia flowers just after Christmas.

Is the magnolia a favorite of yours for the home in winter?

I love this kind of decorating, ever since I went to Williamsburg at Christmas one year. They used magnolia leaves in many of the natural decorations.
