Buy Debbie Meyer GeniusVac Bags In Place of Handi Vac Freezer Bags

Ms. Venegas experiments with Mexican foods under the watchful critiques of her husband. The recipes need to pass a "when I was a kid" test.

Looking for Handi-Vac Vacuum Freezer Bags?

The Debbie Meyer GeniusVac Bags are the new replacement for the discontinued Handi-Vac freezer bags. My husband bought me a Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer a few years ago.

I ran out of the quart size freezer bag and could not find them at our groceries, Target or Costco. Realizing the Reynolds freezer bags are discontinued, I finally searched the Internet. A few old articles later and searching eBay and Amazon I finally landed Debbie Meyer.

Advertised to be used with the Reynolds Handi-Vac. The DM food sealer system looks identical to the Reynolds system.

This whole search was raising some questions. I liked the system that Reynolds came up with, but how was I to know if the Debbie Meyer product would perform the same?

After more comparison with the info on the web I decided to purchase the Debbie Meyer GeniusVac Bags so I could still use the nifty little vac and save more cheese from blue mold with the freezer bags.

In 2016 I Received A new Freezer System

Sometime last year my husband spotted a new handheld gadget for sucking the air out of freezer bags. He knew I was still struggling with the Debbie Meyer GeniusVac - Reynolds.

He noticed this was a rechargeable unit. He bought it a Target.

Read the review.

Who Would Buy the Debbie Meyer GeniusVac Bags?

If Debbie Meyer kept GeniusVac Freezer bags on the virual shopping shelves, would you order them?

Now Available from

Be sure to compare prices at Debbie Meyers website first. Some third party sellers may over price. HsN hardly ever has the freezer bags available.

The only place I have seen them is Amazon and Ebay.

Gallon Size Bags

It is true I do not use the Gallon size as often as the quart. There are uses other than food freezing vacuum bags can be used for.

A knitter may have a classic collection of wools stored for the next project. A gallon GeniusVac bag is ideal for accessing your skeins and easy resealing if you change your mind. Wools need protection from dust and bugs.

My Freezer Bag Purchase Arrives

I received the purchase within three days. Now I had 60 bags that will last me for awhile. It cost $40.00. That is 66 cents apiece, but with my web searching I found out there are ways to reuse the bags. One suggestion was to put the food item in the cheap fold bag first, keeping the zipper vacuum bag clean.

Some householders turn them inside out wash and rinse thoroughly. With meats everyone said just use once.

The big question about the bags being as good as the original Reynold's vacuum freezer bag still needed to be tested. I compared the new product with the Reynolds and they are identical, as far as the zip closure and press suction tip hole. I could only go by touch but I think the new bag is a couple mm thinner. The glue line to attach the bag to the blue zipper strip is not as wide, but everything performed like the old bag.

Happy Now That I Can Use My Handi-Vac

I do buy meats in bulk most of the time and divide the portions when I get home. The bags help prevent freezer burn.

Cheese is a big item in our house and some types only come in blocks. Pounds of cheese has been wasted due to mold growing on the block. This easy to use vacuum system allows me to finish the block by helping to avoid the cheese mold.

The Debbie Meyer bags come in plain white packaging with perforated openings. I am happy I can still use this food storage system.

Cheese Saver GeniusVac Bags

As this big block of Tillamook is being consumed, (my husband has to have this brand), I cut away the wrapper. Try to handle block with paper towel or a cheap fold over food bag. Hands can be a source of mold development.

Put a fresh fold over sandwich bag on the exposed end.

Then put in vacuum bag and use the Handi-Vac (or the Debbie Meyer GenuisVac) to create an airtight seal. The cheese will keep till you make that next cheesy dish.

Hope this may give you some help - with Handi Vac freezer bags and Debbie Meyer freezer bags.

@anonymous: HSN launched their version of the bags. I can only guess that they did not do as well as they had hoped.

Although these various food sealing gadgets seem expensive at first, the cost of wasted food is often not as obvious. I seldom throw away frozen foods or cheeses anymore because of damage. These pay off in the long run.

I have seen this product advertised on TV recently. Great idea for keeping freezer foods fresh. I agree about what the gals are saying about inserting a cheaper bag first. Thanks for your info on this product. :)

Great advice here. I like the idea of inserting the food in a cheaper bag before vacuuming it.

We use a different vacuum sealer. I like the idea of using a cheap plastic inner bag to keep the more expensive bag for reuse. Hadn't thought of that.

Gosh, this looks swell! Especially if it can help reduce the occurrence of green or furry cheese. Too bad, I can't vacuum seal myself? ;)

I can think of a few instances where getting a sealer would be worth it particularly with cheese which tends to get really moldy before I can finish the block.

@ElizabethJeanAl: See! I think it is okay to reuse them. My daughter said no way. This gadget is pretty small

that is why I searched the web for those bags. Without the bags there is not much to use it for.

I thought about getting a vacuum sealer, but I really don't have room for another gadget. I use the heavy duty freezer bags and just squeeze the air out as I seal it. And yes, I wash and reuse them all the time.

      Very informative lens.
