Men's Clothing Valet Chairs & Suit Hanger - Gentleman's Wardrobe Chair

Updated on May 25, 2014

After a long day at work the temptation is to pull of that restrictive suit and tie and toss it on the bed, drape it over a chair or otherwise dump it someplace where it can get wrinkled by the next day. Suits are expensive however, so they deserve a little more respect than that which is why you should consider a gentleman's suit valet chair or men's clothing wardrobe chairs as they are sometimes also known.

These are the ultimate in executive bedroom furniture. Originally something of a status symbol back when they were originally introduced, the wooden valet chair with suit hanger is now seen as a useful piece of furniture for any well dressed man. The typical men's clothing valet chair features a suit jacket hanger as the back, a tie rack, trouser holding rail and coin tray for loose change, cufflinks, and other small items. Many also have a built in drawer or hinged seat top with a lift up lid under which you can store such things as shoe polish, a shoehorn and other male grooming items.

When not in use or not, the valet chair doubles up as a bedroom chair as is a tasteful, attractive piece of bedroom furniture. They come in a wide range of woods, from light colored wood like pine to darker mahogany and teak valet chairs to fit all ranges of existing bedroom furnishings. You also find them in more modern chrome and brushed nickel chait valets, or in eco-friendly bamboo or wicker.

A wardrobe valet chair is particularly useful for anyone who wears a suit to work, keeping your suit crease free and you looking sharp for the day ahead. Many use them to lay out their work clothes for the next day so it's less fumbling around in the mornings which is something your partner is bound to appreciate if you get up and go before they need to in the mornings. Suit hanging chairs also give you a comfortable place to put your shoes on like a man and a storage seat for keeping the shoehorn and polish at hand right where you need it.

Men's Valet Chair With Storage Drawer

Bedroom Chair with Suit Hanger and Drawer for Storage

The idea behind this type of chair is to offer both beauty, functionality and storage. To these ends, there are several types of valet chair or suit butler chairs as they are sometimes called, which serve this purpose. A valet chair with a drawer compartment not only provides a great place to hang a suit on the back with a built in suit hanger as well as being a functional chair for slipping on your shoes but also offers a neat and tidy storage compartment in the form of a pull drawer builtin under the seat. This type of storage chair is ideal for keeping other items of use to the well groomed gentleman such as shoe polish or a shoe horn, a lint roller, electric clothing shaver or suit brush, a manicure kit and so on. These drawers are not huge but are often spacious enough to hold a variety of items which would otherwise clutter up a bedroom or be put away someplace else where they may not be quite so handy.

Vintage Valet Chairs - Retro and Antique Valet Chair Seats

In the past, the well to do gentleman would always have a valet chair in their bedroom for holding their suit, cufflinks and other gentleman's attire. Vintage suit valet chairs are somewhat hard to find locally although local antique furniture dealers might be able to satisfy your needs and you never know what you'll find in charity shops and even Craigslist. A more likely source online is eBay which typically has at least a few vintage clothing valet furniture items for sale including antique suit butler stands and clothes valets.

Suit Valet Chairs With Internal Storage

Chairs Lift Up Seat Storage

Some have drawers, others have interal storage accessed by lifting up the seat lid. This type of wooden valet chair with a lift up seat top and storage inside offers a similar type of decluttering feature as those with a drawer in the front but look more like a traditional chair as there is no consicuous drawer knob in the front. The nice thing about these types of gentleman's valet chair is that to look at them, you'd never know there was an internal storage area so you basically get a useful suit hanger and clothing organizer for the bedroom but also a neat hidden compartment inside the chair for storing grooming accessories. or even for hiding more valuable (or embarrassing) items out of sight.

Neat idea! Never seen these before. Of course that is because I don't really like wearing suits. LOL

I have one of these. I most enjoy being able to have all my clothes ready in the morning. No last minute decisions, everything is chosen and ready to go. I bought my Son-In-Law one as well.

I asked my husband what he thought about this valet chair business and he said he'd be happy with just a chair with a drawer in idea!
