Vintage Corelle Dishes and Table Setting Guide
Discontinued Corelle Dishes | Vintage Corelle Dishes
My grandmother's dishes have always held a special place in my heart. The design was simple but the love she put into the food she served in her home made them seem magical. I am so grateful every time I find another piece that matches the vintage designs of her dinnerware, service, and table setting patterns.
With so many resources I have found it is getting a lot easier to find replacement pieces for discontinued patterns. It is remarkable how much and how many styles I was able to find on my research mission to find all of my friends their favorite designs from childhood.
Vintage Corelle Dishes are not only fun to collect they are likely still great for everyday or special occasion use. You might be surprised how durable the Corelle brand dishes have been in the past and also how much enjoyment they have brought to their owners day after day, year after year. This page shows Corelle Dishes Sorted By Pattern Name so it will be easy to replace the pattern you love.
A Family Tradition
Vintage Corelle Dishes
I have owned Corelle dishes most of my adult life. My mother owned them, my grandmother owned them... the brand has been remarkable for generations in my family. I love to have a white set and at least one or two patterned sets. This way you can always add a few of the white pieces into any of the other sets to expand on the number of place settings you have.
You can combine patterned sets as well if you plan ahead. Look at the patterns of Corelle dishes displayed on this page and you'll see what I mean. There are several which would compliment each other so you can use them alone, together, or mix and match for different occasions.
Don't be hesitant to use your dinnerware as part of your decorating plan. A plate on the counter with fruit on it or a cup with a fresh cut flower are only two of a vast number of ways you can use your dinnerware to add decorating elements to your kitchen, breakfast area, or dining room.
White Corelle Dishes
The White Corelle Dishes work well with any occasion! You can pair them up with other sets of dishes and an endless number of accents and accessory styles. A must for every dining room so you can also extend other sets when you are having extra guests.
Don't overlook that these are perfect for the kid's table at family gatherings. And just as durable for the adult's table as well for parties. Mix and match some of the different designs available with a set of basic white Corelle in round and in square sets.
Combine Vintage With Other Decorating Styles
When you begin to build your dinnerware collection you can start with a few pieces and gradually build onto it with the pieces you love the most.
Be adventurous and try to use different styles, colors, and eras together on your table. This is a way to make your table setting uniquely your own. When you are combining colors, textures, and styles look for a similarity. While much about the piece can be different, having a similarity will tie them together.
Look for at least one similarity:
- A similar color in the design.
- The shape.
- The finish (shiny, matte, or textured).
- Combine patterns with solids.
- Combine patterns when they play off of each other (a leaf on one and a floral on the other often works well together).
As you play with the combination of pieces your table setting will take on a life of its own and show you how to develop even more.
Nouveau Corelle Dishes
This style was just a bit more elegant than the plan white style. I love to mix and match these with just about any other color or style. Imagine this one with the cottage style or the modern deco styles. The details are subtle and the Nouveau will stand alone or combined with other styles as well.
This is my ''classy'' style which can be mixed and matched with another favorite style or design. Consider using a darker dinnerware design with these during the winter and then switch to a lighter colored pattern during the spring.
Combining dinnerware sets for your table setting allows you to change the ambiance of your table with ease.
Que From The Menu
Taking your first step in designing your table setting will be easier when you know what your menu plan is for the gathering. It can be a dinner for two or a large get-together and these ideas will help you to put your creativity to work for you.
Make a list of the items you will serve. Each beverage, entrée, dessert, or side (bread, dipping sauces, etc.) will require two dishes:
- Serving Dish (pitcher, platter, tray, bowl, etc.)
- Eating dish (cup, glass, plate, bowl, etc.)
- Serving utensil
- Eating utensil.
Also consider, for smaller gatherings, putting the condiments you will have on the table into dishware. For example:
- Put condiments in small bowls with small spoons (rather than having the bottles on the table).
- Put breads in a basket or crystal serving bowl or tray.
This is a way to create an elegant table setting and use all of your amazing dishware.
