What Is The Best Electric Pressure Washer?

Updated on June 10, 2014

This is Not Just Another Pressure Washer Review

Awhile ago, I started looking for a new pressure washer to use around the house. I'm no professional; I was just thinking of cleaning the deck, the sidewalk, the vinyl siding. You know, basic homeowner stuff, once or twice a month.

I'm the kind of guy that spends a good bit of time researching a purchase like this. I check out online retailers as well as local stores to see what's available. I read reviews on Amazon, check out Consumer Reports and Family Handyman, and search for posts on homeowner forums. I spend hours trying to find the PERFECT product. Truth is - there isn't a perfect pressure washer. Every manufacturer, every model, has its own pros and cons.

I don't just research the product. I look at the company as well. Great companies make great products. Great companies stand behind their products with service and support after the sale.

Early in my research I discovered a brand that was unfamiliar to me, Blue Clean from A R North America. I checked out the company, their history, their products and their reputation. Everything I found impressed me.

A Little Bit About A R North America

A R North America has been in business since 1989, as the sole North American distributor for Annovi Reverberi S.p.A, Italy.

A R Italy has been manufacturing high pressure pumps of the best quality for over 60 years. Their pumps, known for long life and trouble free durability, are used in many commercial and industrial products such as car washes, truck mounted carpet cleaners, and the best commercial pressure washers around the globe.

Now, they have brought that experience to residential pressure washers, at a very competitive price. Check out their website.

They make great products that they back up with excellent customer service and telephone support.

Take a Look at The AR Blue Clean 1900 PSI AR383

The AR 383 is a fan favorite that is on many wish lists. An Amazon "Best Seller" for good reason.

It's lightweight and easy to move. Could use a taller handle, though.

A 30 foot power cord and 20 foot hose give you lots of freedom to move about. There is onboard storage for all of the included attachments.

Those attachments include two nozzles - rotating and wide angle, soap dispenser, water filter, and a detergent injector kit. Sprayer changes are quick and easy. No tools required.

I love the idea of the hose reel. My old unit doesn't have that. I was disappointed to find that on this unit the hose reel is "static" - only for storage - the hose must be fully removed from the reel before it is attached to the machine and used. Also, if you have ever used a pressure washer, you know how stiff the hose is. A little tough to reel it in so small. The AR 390, below, has a fully functional hose reel.

Still, the AR383 is packed with features, very reasonably priced, and engineered to last. You can't go wrong with this one. Course, if you can spend just a few more bucks...

Meet the AR Blue Clean model AR390-1800psi - An Upgrade From the AR383

The AR 390 is an updated version of the AR 383. A few added features, for just a few dollars more.

Here you will find the same 30 foot cord, but a 30 foot hose instead of 20. A GFCI plug for safety.

Two sprayer lances. One has an adjustable spray nozzle, the other a turbo nozzle. Simple, tool free changes.

A fully functional hose reel - not just for storage - the washer can be used with the hose still on the reel. Same stiff hose makes reeling it back in a bit of a chore.

They have also added a built in detergent tank, like you find on the big gas powered commercial models.

Maximum pressure has been reduced to 1800psi, but overall water flow is increased to 1.6gpm

This is the one that's on my Amazon wish list.

Plastic Hose Fitting

The Plastic Hose Fitting on the AR 383

Looks Solid, But...

The AR 383 and AR 390 both come with a recently re-engineered quick connect hose fitting. In person it looks solid enough, no leaks or drips. But, I'm clumsy sometimes and worried about breaking the fitting if the machine tipped over.

Upgrade to Solid Brass Hose Fitting

For About $10

It's easy enough, and relatively inexpensive, to replace the plastic hose fitting with one made from solid brass. To make this happen, you need to purchase a male to male swivel fitting AND a male to female quick connect. The swivel can be used by itself, but you would lose the convenient quick connect feature.

This solid brass fitting allows you to connect the male end of your hose to the male fitting on the Blue Clean.

This solid brass quick connect may be used with the dual swivel. Attach one piece to the swivel fitting and the other to the end of your hose.

Is This the Best Pressure Washer Available?

Depends on Your Exact Needs and Budget

You can spend 3, 4, or even 5 times as much on a commercial grade electric pressure washer. If you plan to use it all day, every day, then that may be the choice for you. AR has a line of industrial pressure washers that sell for $700-$1000 and on up.

On the other hand, if you're a homeowner like me, just looking to scrape the crud off the deck and the patio furniture, then an industrial model would be overkill. Not to mention budget kill.

There are certainly other brands available. Brands with more recognizable names. But, here's the truth. Look inside those other brands and odds are it's powered by an AR pump. AR is the number one pump supplier worldwide to manufacturers of power washers. Number one.

Given their history and reputation engineering quality industrial high pressure pumps, I am confident that AR is a brand that is built to last. Add to that their excellent reputation for customer service and support after the sale and I am sold on AR Blue Clean.

You won't find a better pressure washer for the price.

One of the best affiliate landing pages I have seen in a long time. I actually found it informative because I'm looking at the ar390. Will be buying the pressure washer and fittings through you so you get the commission.... and I NEVER do this.
