Beeswax is a natural, tough wax that is harvested from the caps that forms on each individual cell of a honeycomb. When bee keepers remove the honey from the comb, they must first remove the wax plug. Naturally, the wax is very tough so it is often combined with other oils to soften and become more pliable. Beeswax can be used in many, many ways and is very popular among those who prefer natural crafts.

Beeswax Candles

The most popular beeswax craft is probably candle making. Beeswax candles are non-toxic, drip less than other mixed-product candles and give off a natural, light, pleasant scent. There are many different methods to making beeswax candles, from rolling wax sheets around a wick to actually melting your beeswax in a melting pot and pouring into a mold of any shape you like.

Beeswax Crayons & Canvas Arts

Online retailers such as Amazon.com, or art supply websites and stores have beeswax crayons for sale. These are a great natural item to give kids as a gift, for pretty much any holiday or just to keep them occupied. Beeswax crayons can provide hours of fun and get kids in the habit of using their imaginations and creative skills!

Mixed media artists love using beeswax on their canvas collages. You can use beeswax in a similar fashion to mod-podge, using different fabrics and papers to create a beautiful and unique image. Other than a block of beeswax to melt, you simply need a canvas of any size, brushes that will be only used for wax purposes, a crock pot or other device to melt the beeswax in and the materials to use for your art piece.

Look for recipes or experiment with your own ingredients. The basics usually include the beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, honey and a fragrance of your choice (optional).

Where to Buy Beeswax Locally

You can find beeswax at any local craft store or even at your local farmer's market. Consider contacting local beekeepers as well. Another great option is to search on online marketplaces such as Amazon.com or Ebay.com. These options provide many different forms and types of beeswax for your crafting enjoyment.

I once was able to buy bees wax in sheets which weren't sheets of honeycomb. I for the life of me can't find who I got it from so I can get more. They're great for rolling into candles. Lots of options here for getting bees wax supplies.
