Winter Home Decorating Ideas with dark color home décor and lights

Updated on October 13, 2016

A chandelier light fixture will brighten your home

Winter Home Decorating ideas with Dark Colors, Mahogany - Colorado Style Home décor and Lights

Dark colored Mahogany - Colorado style décor, is the style I am using for this winter home decorating ideas lens, which I like very much, it gives a warm winter feeling, with the right lighting. Everybody has their own personal tastes in designing a home to their likes. These days of modern style interior is based on the principle, "less is more" it means the less furniture you have, the better it will look, besides in these hard times, costs are what you need to consider, if you can get away with fewer items, why have more?

Today's generation like these styles, I have here, modern rooms tend to have straight and plain furniture frequently in dark wood tones or black. Usually, a few decorative items such as tables, sofas, chandelier, cushions and rugs makes for great living. Dark colors give the room stylishness, class, and contemporary looks, with the lighting, that makes the picture of warmth and adds sparkle to your home on a cold winters day. The right choice of lighting helps define the environments of a harsh winters day and adds sparkle to our homes.

Homework is important, when planning lighting, you need to access and understand the spaces you want to light.

It is better to get a lighting designer or architect to draw up a lighting plan.

Living rooms reflect beauty contents and aesthetic sense of house owner with dark colored furnishings. It still hasn't changed over the years, i just love going with the darker décor for furniture, nice rich accents.

In modern style, you can arrange living room furniture with sofas, armchairs, coffee table, dining table, chairs, wall accents, TV units, bookcases, ottomans and other decorative items and give your home a feeling of great warmth in the winter.

Put a few bright colors candles in funky candle holders to give your living room modern appearance, but you may sooner have lights, it is the way you arrange them or put them that makes the differences to how it feels on those winter days. But you still can't beat that open fire look, of sitting watching the flame burning slowing in the grate.

Nice, idea is the throw-over blanket, saving on the winter heating bill and energy consumption, it feels lovely and cozy,on a cold winters night, I go for warmth that is what makes a home a home.

Lighting Ideas Home Design Tips

Halogen bulbs differ in their longevity.

You can get 2000 hours bulbs and 10,000 hour bulbs..

the latter are dearer, but they last longer.

They might be twice the price, but last five times longer.

Light adds sparkle to your home

Lighting needs have changed over the years - especially in the living areas. A house in the 70's had one single light in the center of the lounge, and one over the dining table. A flash home had a few more lights, and maybe a dimmer. Now the demand is for ambiance lighting and energy efficiency. From a design point of view, it's great.

The greater emphasis on lighting requires a greater focus on getting it right. Lighting can become a work of art in the décor - and it's choice justified by the effect it creates. A big light fitting hanging in a tall space such as a stairwell will be seen as a major feature so money is well spent. There are plenty on internet resources on lighting concepts and products, and the option of setting up your own custom lighting project.

YoungWolf: Yes I can understand you decorating your home with a Christmas theme, as Christmas is winter in your part of the world.

Here in New Zealand it is winter now, I sure could do with a up lift, had enough of rain and dull cold days.

      Hope you are enjoying summer.

      Great ideas on lighting!

I love the moody light of a fireplace, but unfortunately after I moved I had none anymore. Instead I am playing a video of a fireplace on my TV screen whenever I feel like it. This is currently playing . Nothing compares to a real fireplace in my opinion, but this idea does its job.

i personally prefer to decorate my rooms with holiday gadgets. Mostly because the important holidays(thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) are during the winter. However these home designs are not that bad. If i wasn't decorating for the holidays i will use some of the ideas you listed.

CrisSp: I agree with you, winter isn't the best time to start doing home decorating, sometimes just a little change in the living room can give you a lift on the dull winter days, even lighting in a different place to brighten up a drab corner.

Thanks for the visit, all the best to you in 2015.

Amazmerizing: I agree with you about that photo, in the winter especially more light makes the place a lot warmer, that picture was just the idea of using lights and the dark tone of color in the home.

I really like the décor in your first photo, yet a little brighter would work better for us. We all have vision problems, so avid readers tend to need more light. Great hub. ;)

@anonymous: Thanks for you visit and comment, pleased you liked it, it is amazing what lighting can do on a dull day. Hope you enjoyed the sunshine, before winter comes.

Here in NZ looking forward to summer, we seem to be more rain days than sunny days.

I love doing seasonal décor on my house. I grow bored with things always looking the same. This changes up my collections and makes everything more interesting. I still have boxes of stuff I haven't gotten to put out in years but it's always fun when I break out one of the boxes. Great lens. Yes I knew about the lightbulb idea. I burn out regular bulbs way too easily. I just have to walk under them.

My husband does most of our decorating. His framed photos, artistically placed, take up most of the wall space. I like a warm comfy family room. The dining room is more formal.

I like the warm tones you have selected and cffutah is right .. priced well too.

      Angel blessed.

I guess you could call mine "self-decorated," but it's not very fancy. Sure liked some of the choices you had here.
