Retired Yankee Candles

Updated on October 21, 2014

Looking for that Hard to Find Yankee Candle Scent?

Yankee Candle rolls out new scents every season, and some have been very popular. Some of these scents have stuck around, some have been put into the vault and "retired." Some of these retired scents are in very high demand on eBay! Here you'll find a collection of different rare Yankee Candles, take a look.

If you're looking for a particular scent, you can discuss in the comments, or just search yourself on Ebay, which is the best place to find these hard to find candles. From time to time, if you hit it right, you may just find some of your old favorites at some of the Yankee Candle Outlet stores. However, instead of leaving it to chance, your best bet might be to just buy them at auction and save yourself the aggravation.

Why are These Yankee Candles in Such Demand?

Yankee Candle makes some of the best scented candles you can find anywhere. They're constant unveiling of new scents has gained them a sort of cult following, and some of the scents that have been limited releases or seasonal and not brought back into production have become very popular amongst collectors. Some rare Yankee Candles, like the original "Halloween," can fetch hundreds of dollars!

Autumn Lodge

This scent is very unique, and one of Yankee Candle's most popular retired scents. Occasionally, it is brought back into production for a limited time, but not for very long. It's always snagged up. The scent is like pipe tobacco.

Patchouli has always been a popular scent, but for some reason never stays in production for long. Yankee Candle has renamed this scent in various forms over the years, from Witches Brew, Purrchouli, to the original Patchouli name.

Gingerbread Maple - A festive scent for the fall months!

This popular candle was a limited release and has a very strong maple scent, with the spicy addition of fresh baked gingerbread.

Aroma Formula

The Aroma Formula collection Yankee Candle produced is immensely popular right now on eBay. Some of the scents they made were Lemongrass & Orange, Bergamot Mandarin, and Ginger & Gingseng. All of them are very relaxing, spa quality scents, and are very different from any of the current candles.

If you're having candles shipped to you, buying insurance is well worth the small extra cost. Glass candle jars are very fragile, and anything can happen during the shipping process.

Apricot Nectar

Who knows when or how long this candle was released, but the scent is great. A powerful summertime style fruit scent, it's very strong and realistic.

Roses of Cliffwalk

Roses of Cliffwalk is a scent that is perfect for summer. The rose scent is more intense than Fresh Cut Roses, and not too expensive most the time.

Ship them Together!

Shipping several candles together can save you a bundle on shipping costs. Flat rate boxes provide much better deals and can fit 3-4 candles for not much more money. If you're making purchases, try to bunch them together from the same seller to save the most money!

Green Grass

Green Grass is a very popular retired Yankee Candle scent, for a few reasons. The color is unique for a Yankee Candle, and the front picture is also very cool. The scent, though, is light and clean, and is very realistic.

Storm Watch

Of all retired Yankee Candle scents, this one was probably the best selling when it wasn't retired. It continues to sell very well as a retired scent. The scent was made to emulate a fresh rain scent.

Rainbows End

Rainbows End is a clean scent, light and slightly cologne-like. The rarity of this Yankee Candle makes it highly desirable on eBay.

Keep your candles in a cool, dry place...they are succeptible to heat damage, as well as moisture damage.

The results here may not show the original Halloween candle, but if they do, you'd better bid quickly! This candle does not come up very often. The front usually has a jack-o-lantern on the front and is very old, one of Yankee's first scents.

Nutcracker, which some say is the same scent as "Christmas Berries," goes for quite a bit of money on eBay. If you can find this scent, it doesn't come up very often, just like the Halloween scent, so you'll want to make sure you win the bid.

Leather is another one of Yankee's retired scents that brings in top dollar. Expect to pay a lot for this one. Yankee still makes this scent in the form of car jars, but the actual jars are very scarce.

Seaside Holiday - The clean, refreshing beachy Yankee Candle scent

A great beach scent that comes up on occasion on eBay. Stock up, it doesn't last long!

A Little About Candles

Bamboo - A clean, forest Yankee Candle scent

There are several variations of bamboo scents that Yankee Candle has offered.

Chocolate Cappuccino

A very strong scent, this aroma wasn't around all that long. If you can find it on auction, grab it.

Tulips is a very strong floral scent that hasn't been in production for years. Nothing like it exists currently.

A unique jar on this one. Relatively hard to find on eBay, and when it does come up, it usually goes for quite a bit of money.

Waterfall Canyon

Waterfall Canyon was in very short production years ago, and has become very popular. It's a clean, refreshing scent, with a very cool front image.

Blueberry - Fresh berry scent from Yankee Candle!

Blueberry is a scent that becomes retired, gets released in stores for a short while, and retired once again. When you see this favorite, stock up for the year!

Carrot Cake

Carrot Cake
Carrot Cake

Sweet Grass

Somehow this scent was snuck into stores and snuck out just as quickly...whether it was a test scent or just a low production run, it's very difficult to find!

Starry Night

One of Yankee's most rare scents, it's very old. Expect to pay plenty if this one is on auction!

Put a Lid on It!

To reduce the amount of soot that comes from your candle, use a candle topper to catch some of the soot, as well as make the candle burn more evenly.

Nothing is easier to light your candle, especially when it gets down to the bottom, then a long Zippo lighter. They're dependable, and easy refillable.

Maple Walnut

A strong maple and nut scent, this one is a great food scent that comes up on eBay every now and again, often in the smaller sizes.

Trim the Wick!

Before you burn, trim the wick with scissors, or special wick scissors, to reduce the amount of soot and debris that falls into the candle wax. It makes it smell better, burn cleaner, and last longer.

Blue Delphinium

This scent wasn't available very long at all, and was another seasonal scent that never came back. If you see it on eBay, you're likely to not see if again for a while.

Mountain Lake

This scent is very clean, and can be found now and again on eBay. At times it becomes more scarce, while other times there might be a few on auction. Try your luck!

Illuma Lids

Yankee sells a large collection of Illuma Lids. In various shapes and sizes, you can find a huge array of these on eBay as well. They reduce the amount of soot that comes out of the candle, while it collects on the underside of the lid. It also helps the wax melt more evenly, so you won't get stuck with loads of wax on the sides.

Save a Little Cash... using a rewards card on your purchases. See if the seller offers reduced shipping for additional purchases. Shipping prices might be negotiable if you're spending enough money!

      Looking for Stargaze!

Kathy - Never heard of that scent before. I just searched Ebay and it looks like they fetch quite a bit of money. The smaller jars are much less. You might have luck in person at one of their outlet stores, you could always call ahead and see what they have. Sometimes they get lesser known scents.

I once purchased a candle called bright copper kettles and I got more compliments on that candle than any candle I have ever bought. I have searched and searched and searched for this candle thinking that surely they're bound to have back stock somewhere but I had no luck except for Amazon when he wants $199 for it.

I love Gingerbread Maple, Patchouli, and Storm Watch, among others. I think its great that sometimes they come back in the Treasures hutch at Yankee Candle stores also. You are right though, how great to find a great deal online, and save money on gas as well from not having to look all around. Thank you for sharing!

@anonymous: Ebay is the best bet. If it's not on Ebay right now, I'd set up a saved search that will alert you when the item comes available.

@anonymous: The Aroma Formula stuff was available in the early to mid 2000s. They fetch a high price! The outlets are where you'll find them besides on Ebay, if they still are around.

Hi! When were the "Aroma Formula" Tarts available?? Also, are you familiar with a line of YC Tarts that had an oval-shaped label? They were mainly nature-themed scents (Orchid Rain, Fig & White Plum, Balsam & Amber, for examples)? When were They available? I'll have to hunt a little harder at my neighborhood YC Outlet store... thanks for your posts, tips and pictures! :)
