Episode Summary

Andy gives a speeding ticket to an attractive woman Elizabeth Crowley (Jean Hagen). Before she reaches trial, she has used flattery and bribes to turn witnesses for the prosecition (Opie, Floyd, and Barney) against Andy. However, after winning the case, she realizes the damage she has done and commits the same offense again on purpose so that she can be caught in order to pay the fine she deserved to start with.

The bribe Opie received was a baseball autographed by the New York Yankees.

Barney got an inflated ego after he was told he resembled Frank Sinatra.

The series was filmed entirely in Hollywood, at Desilu Productions on the former RKO Pictures lot. Mayberry exteriors were shot on the former Selznick International Pictures lot, later known as Forty Acres. The rural fishing hole that opened each episode was Franklin Canyon Lake, just north of Beverly Hills. Franklin Canyon was also the site of the show's Myers Lake and other outdoor locales.

The whistled theme song, "The Fishin' Hole" was composed by Earle Hagen (the music coordinator and famous whistler of the show) and Herbert Spencer, with unsung lyrics by Everett Sloane. Hagen also wrote the music for the series.

Andy: "We'll make accommodations. Barney, lock her up and buy some pink towels."

Barney: "You know, Andy, there's one thing you gotta' say about this case. It was a gas."
