Asia Vacation - Go Exotic and Tropical

Updated on December 9, 2008

An Asia Vacation - Dreaming of a Christmas with a Difference

Asia is a huge region spanning from India in the West to China in the East and North to Indonesia in the South. There are many destinations you can choose from for your Asia vacation.

A favourite vacation region within Asia is a collection of countries bunched together between India and China, called Southeast Asia. These countries, quite different from each other and yet related, have been a favorite destination for backpackers, globe-trotters, and package tourists for quite some time.

Why do these travelers choose an Asia vacation? What do they know that others don't?

There's a reason why this part of Asia is one of the most popular tourist destinations.

Hot sun and blue sky

For one, you can enjoy a tropical climate all year round. The temperature is around 25-30 degrees centigrade throughout the year, with high humidity and a little hotter in the middle of the year. From around November to February, depending on the country, you will find that the climate is much more agreeable. It's much drier and a little cooler.

Imagine escaping the cold, damp and grey winter in North America or Europe...! And loll about on the white beaches of Thailand, or Bali in Indonesia, or Malaysa, or even the Phillippines on Christmas day.

Tastes and smells

Or you can sample some of the most wonderful and exotic foods and culinary delights that are cooked with the unmistakable Asian spices and herbs, such as chilli, lemon grass, ginger, cardamon, coriander, together with a good helping of coconut milk or cream.

If this hasn't made your mouth water yet, wait until I mention all the different exotic and tropical fruits that are available on your Asia vacation. Mango, papaya, pineapple, various sizes and types of banana, watermelon and pomelo are just a few better known fruits that grace your breakfast buffet in the morning. With this selection, your five-a-day is a piece of (fruit)cake.

Culture and religion

Once you've eaten your fill, and had enough of surfing the waves and soaking up the sun, there's a rich heritage and cultural history to discover.

One attraction you mustn't miss is the huge temple complex of Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Get a 3-day pass and prepare to be immersed in the old Khmer culture and religion from around the 10th to 15th century AD.

Slowly reclaimed by the jungle, Angkor was rediscovered in the 1860s, and has become one of the great wonders of the world.

Longer vacation, more adventure, for less

There's another reason, though, why Asia is so popular as a vacation destination.

It is cheap. This doesn't mean that you sacrifice on comfort and luxury. It just simply means that your budget goes further on an Asia vacation. A backpacker, for example, can live perfectly on 20 USD a day in most countries in the region. More sophisticated travelers can still eat and drink well and stay in 4 or 5 star hotels for around 100 USD per day.

Start dreaming about your Asia vacation. And you might decide that you want to experience the climate, the foods, the rich cultural heritage and much more for a fraction of what you would spend closer to home.

Have an adventure.
