Carolina Panthers’ All-Time Rushing Yardage Leaders

Updated on January 22, 2009

DeShaun Foster

DeAngelo Williams

The Carolina Panthers have been an NFL franchise since 1995, and while they have had some great running backs over that time, there isn’t enough actual yardage piled up to have a Top 10 list for rushing for the franchise. So like we did with their quarterbacks, here is a Top 5 all-time for the Panthers in rushing yards to date:

DeShaun Foster (3336)—DeShaun Foster played for Carolina from 2003 to 2007 and was their primary running back during that time, though he never had a Pro Bowl or 1000 yard season. But he was always dependable when healthy. Foster leads the Panthers all-time with 3336 rushing yards. His best season for them was 2006, when he rushed for a career high 897 yards with 3 rushing touchdowns (tied career best), adding 32 receptions for 159 yards as well.

DeAngelo Williams (2733)—DeAngelo Williams was drafted out of Memphis with high hopes in 2006, but didn’t have a breakout season until 2008. Williams already ranks second in Panthers’ history with 2733 rushing yards, and he will likely top this list after half a season in 2009. Williams’ 2008 season was remarkable, as he rushed for a career high 1515 yards with 18 rushing scores (led NFL), and added 22 catches for 121 more yards and two TDs out of the backfield.

Tim Biakabutuka (2530)—Though he never played a full season for Carolina, Tim Biakabutuka played for the Panthers from 1996 until 2001 (his only team) and still ranks third in their history with 2530 rushing yards. Biakabutuka had his best season in 1999, with career highs in rushing yards (718) and rushing TDs (6), adding 23 catches for 189 more yards as a receiver.

Stephen Davis (2085)—Stephen Davis played most of his career with the Redskins, and came over to the Panthers in 2003, playing in Carolina until 2005. Davis ranks fourth in franchise history with 2085 rushing yards, and his best season for them was in 2003. That year, Davis made the Pro Bowl with a career high 1444 rushing yards, with 8 rushing touchdowns, and 14 receptions for another 159 yards.

Fred Lane (2001)—Fred Lane played just three seasons in the NFL, all with the Panthers, from 1997 to 1999. He does rank fifth in Panthers’ team history, though, with 2001 rushing yards. Lane had his best season in 1997, when he rushed for career highs in yards (809) and rushing touchdowns (7), adding 8 catches for 27 yards out of the backfield as well.
