Do You Live on Fantasy Island?

Updated on March 7, 2008

Do you constantly dream about a better life? Do you think your life would be better with different job? Living in a different city, state or even country? Do you think that life would be better with a different mate?

From time to time we all fantasize about things we would like to be different - places we would like to visit and people we feel would add something to our lives.

It is one thing to have dreams, quite another to live in a fantasy world. Everything starts with a dream. Look around you. Everything that you can see was once just an idea, a dream in someone's head. Without dreams, we would still be using clubs to hunt for dinner and living in caves. We need dreams for our lives to progress.

But to live in a dream world, where our dreams are out of touch with reality is not healthy. There are two problems that I see on a daily basis. One is people whose dreams have no connection to the real world. They are not dreaming, they are hoping that some magic fairy will fulfill their wishes.

The second and far greater problem is people who are always dreaming of doing the things they are capable of doing but fail to take the action to make those dreams come true. The fool themselves into thinking that if they dream long enough, their dreams will somehow be fulfilled.

I firmly believe that you need dreams. You must have a vision of a better life. But visions without action are mere wishes.

Today not tomorrow

If you want to get off Fantasy Island, quit saying "Someday I'll". Make someday, today. Start doing.

Your dreams will never come true without some action on our part. The more action you take, the closer you will be to having your dreams come true.

You know, I was looking for the proper English "do you live on an island or in an island" and I came across this site.

The church that I drive by every day has a different quote every few weeks. Last month it stated "Vision without action is only daydreaming."

Though I find this statement very true. It's hard to take actions when you have a spouse with different visions.

ex. living on the east coast and daydreaming about living on the west coast.

Ogden Nash once said, "One would be in less danger, from the wiles of a stranger, If one's own kin and kith, were more fun to be with."

It is a fact of life that those closest to us have the most influence on us and our lives - but having the most influence does not assure that the influence is in the right direction.

I totally agree that life can become very difficult when your soulmate does not share your vision for life. I would hope that you would be able to convince him to understand and support your vision. I would also suggest that life is much to short to be in constant conflict with a close loved one. It is an issue that needs to be resolved.

    Thanks for reading and commenting.
