Earn Free Gift Cards Through MyPoints

Updated on January 19, 2008

I have been a member of MyPoints for six years now and over the years have earned many free gift cards. MyPoints is a great online site that allows you to earn points to cash in for gift cards. It is very easy to earn points and worthwhile for us to use this site.

Once you sign up for MyPoints you will begin receiving emails from them for you to take advantage of offers from various merchants. Just by clicking on these emails and waiting for the screen to pop up will earn you 5 points, sometimes 10 points. I get several of these a day and it takes no more than one minute for me to click on the offers, close out and move on to the next offer. This is a very easy way to earn points.

Sometimes an offer is so good that we take advantage of it and earn extra points. Surveys generally give you 50 points; other offers can give you hundreds of points. Be careful about the offers you do, keep the emails about these offers in a separate email folder for reference if your points are not credited correctly. There is a lag in getting points credited, usually 30-60 days, so don't panic if you don't see the points right away.

Another very quick way to earn points is to shop through the MyPoints site. This can earn you a lot of points quickly. Please don't buy something just to earn points though, that will not save you money in the long run. If you were going to buy something online, check MyPoints first though. They have a lot of merchants to choose from and some even offer 10 points per dollar spent. Again keep all emails regarding your purchases in a separate folder for future reference.

MyPoints is pretty good about crediting them correctly, but you never know when they won't. If you need to email customer service about points, you need to have all the information about the offer. MyPoints customer service is very good about responding quickly and getting your points credited correctly if there is a problem.

Every year I earn between $25 and $50 in gift cards to various places. Frequently I take the practical route and get gasoline gift cards. Other years I have saved my points all year to redeem for a large Toys R Us gift card right before Christmas. One of my favorites though, is to redeem my points for restaurant gift cards. We don't eat out often, because it is expensive to take a family of 6 out to eat, but earning these gift cards has made that easier on the budget.

If you are not yet a member of MyPoints, I would highly recommend you try it out. If you don't like receiving the emails, or find it to be too time consuming, you can always stop participating at any time. I think it is a very good way to earn some free gift cards each year though, and think that everyone should take advantage of their offers.

I love MyPoints. I have belonged for just over a year and I need to redeem my points soon for some gift cards. I just love seeing my points grow, I really do need to cash them in soon though. Do you know how long it takes to receive your gift cards once you redeem them online?

Don't they have a survey section on their website? I forget. I think I used to be a member, but never got enough points or something. There were too many "sign up for a free trial." That's if I'm thinking of the right sight.

Thanks, I'm going to check it out right now! How many points do you have to accumulate before you can cash in gift cards?
