Heartburn cure

Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest that can extend to the neck, throat, and face. It is worsened by bending or lying down. It is the primary symptom of gastroesophageal reflux, which is the movement of stomach acid into the esophagus. On rare occasions, it is due to gastritis (stomach lining inflammation).

More than one third of the population is afflicted by heartburn and with about one tenth afflicted daily. Infrequent heartburn is usually without serious consequences, but chronic or frequent heartburn (recurring more than twice per week) can have severe consequences. Accordingly, early management is important.

Heartburn is a serious health condition for many people, and for a lot of us finding heartburn cure is one the prime goals in our life.

Heartburn occurs if the acid from the stomach leaks to the esophagus. This is called reflux and it happens if the lower esophageal sphincter malfunctions.

The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a thick band of muscles that encircles the esophagus just above the uppermost part of the stomach. This sphincter is usually tightly closed and normally opens only when food passes from the esophagus into the stomach. Thus, the contents of the stomach are normally kept from moving back into the esophagus.

There are many ways to find your own special brand of heartburn cure, and they run the gamut from over-the-counter drugs, to natural remedies, to prescription drugs. Moreover, there is also a true method of diet control and this could be one of the best heartburn cures.

For quick heartburn cure a glass of low fat milk is ideal, especially if you re just after a meal. If you re on the go and haven t got any medication handy, a stick of chewing gum will also go a long way to relieving your distress. The alkaline the saliva produces by the chewing process will fight back the stomach acids rising in your gullet.

Physicians also recommend that you stay on the move when you suffer from an attack. Standing, walking, or light exercise will all aid you in finding heartburn relief. Sitting, or even lying down is absolute not advisable as this will merely give your stomach acids easier access to your esophagus, causing you greater heartburn.

Over-the-counter medicines like antacid will also be an easy access heartburn cure. It will counter your rising acidity levels. Products such as Tums, Pepcid, and Zantac are all very well known and do tend to work most of the time. However, if you re going to take these type of heartburn cure it's always best to consult your physician first because he knows the best type of heartburn cure that will provide you the ample relief.

If you re the adventurous type, a more natural method of heartburn cure could be taken such as one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. This supposedly relieves you of you heartburn within minutes. Caution is however advised when taking home remedies such as this.
