Homeschool Curriculum Review - Exploring Creation With Zoology 2

Updated on December 22, 2008

Apologia has a wonderful science curriculum available for elementary students, typically homeschoolers, called Exploring Creation with Zoology. There are three parts in this series and this hub is on their Zoology 2 program, Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day. Zoology 1 is on Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day and Zoology 3 is on Land Animals of the Sixth Day. This science curriculum is written by Jeannie Fulbright and is full of information about lots of different animals, written from a Biblical perspective.

In Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day you will explore all of the ocean's creatures, from whales to octopus, from sharks to plankton, from manatees to turtles and everything else in the ocean from the smallest to the largest creatures. Your children will continue to learn about animal classification - at their level. This is one reason I like the zoology curriculum so much, it is easily adaptable to my children's different levels of learning. My oldest can do an in-depth report on a particular shark, my middle child can do a short report on sharks in general and my youngest children can listen to stories on sharks.

As in all the zoology books, there are notebook pages and experiments to go along with each chapter. These notebook pages can be printed off the internet and can be made as easy or as difficult as you want to make them.  Actually when you print the pages, there is a younger student set of notebook pages and an older student set.  The experiments use regular household items for the most part and do not take a lot of advance preparation. These are the kind of programs I need!

Swimming Creatures of the Fifth day is a fun science curriculum that most kids will love. A field trip to the ocean (if you live near one) will make all the learning come to life. You do not have to do the chapters in order, so study them however you want to. Don't forget to check out books from the library (you choose age appropriate books for your children) to go along with the animals you are discovering. Children love stories and animals. A science curriculum that is all about animals and uses lots of books and stories is perfect for elementary kids.

I have found the zoology science curriculum to be a wonderful science program for young children.  I hope you enjoy this series as much as we have.

Children are very fond of having stories on swimming creatures of the sea. They are mostly interested in the life of a dolphin. Good work!
