My First Flight
Fear at First Flight
I am a Gemini, an air sign, typical in many ways, but don't share the air sign's love of flying. I used to console myself saying that my heroes P. G. Wodehouse and Isaac Asimov hated travelling by air, so it was okay for little me to feel that way.
Now I have been invited to take part in a seminar as a writer of children's literature: the seminar is to be at Goa, a beachside resort in Central India. They are taking care of food, board and travel
I told my friend, an illustrator and co-participant, "Let's not leave carbon footprints; Let's travel by train and bus," but that would make it a daylong trip or more and she refused. All made fun of me and I have to fly now.
I plagued better-travelled people about what to take along, will they strip check me, how probable is a bomb, or an accident or a hijack , and they patiently answered my questions.
I'm not supposed to take razors, nail cutters, bottles and scissors in the bag I carry, lest I take it into my mind to hijack the plane and take it back! (I might do that!) I have to have photocopies of some ID to prove I am me! Right. 20 kg in big bag and 5kg in little bag. Check. A paperback to read. Don't carry heavy books, they are heavier than you think. Fine!
But my biggest fear is that I would love it so much that I will want to do it again, like my first time in a cable car.
I have to finish packing; the car will be at my door in an hour. Tell you all about it when I get back, safe! Will read your hubs if possible, but won't have the time to write. For 8 days. Bye!
