History is far from being a dead issue. If we do not appreciate where we have come from then we have no way of finding the light to lead us through the future. All that we have been, all that we once were, repeats itself in a cycle of unending eventuality. There is no escaping it, and as hard to believe as this might sound, there is no changing it. We are hardwired into our past through genetics and the essentials of life that drive all living organisms. Unless those were to change we cannot change and our needs cannot change. One does not have to be a prophet to see the future. One merely has to be a historian in order to see how civilization after civilization, no matter how advanced it may have considered itself, has repeated the hisory of its predecessor. Biblically, God said "I am that which I am." And so in our case, "We are what we are." The products of our past and if God can't change, then neither can we.
