Humdrum routines are easily adopted because they tend to be "comfortable". A change isn't always as good as a rest but it certainly wakes up the mind and body to new experiences and sensations.
I used to move jobs, houses, and often countries (along with wife and family) every 2 or 3 years in the Army and though it meant we had/have a wide network of friends we never stayed with the same people for very long. There were always new places to explore, new shops for my wife to spend an age in, new pals for my children to adapt to, and whole new roles for me to take on.
I think it helped us to grow and mature with wider horizons than might otherwise have been the case...... and it even delayed my progress into "Grumpy-Old-Man" ( a little at least!).
I've enjoyed a little "spice" and it all came through variety.
