Ten, huh? I can't guarantee these are the best, but they are good, as I've personally eaten at each of them many times.
Banquet, Clement and 11th Ave -- great for banquet, as well as general dimsum and dinners
Mayflower, Geary and 25th Ave -- great for dimsum, as well as seafood dinners and such
Hong Kong Lounge, Geary and 17th Ave -- also great for dimsum, but they keep changing the staff and the result is a bit uneven, sometimes very good, sometimes not so good
New Asia, in Chinatown on Pacific and Stockton -- the best known and biggest dimsum house in Chinatown, can be quite noisy and hectic, but a lot of push carts full of dimsum
Hunan Home's, in Chinatown on Jackson and Kearny, next to the old theater -- some the best Hunan style (spicy) food in town
Bund, in Chinatown on Jackson between Kearny and Grant -- one of the few Shanghai-nese restaurants in town, this one is pretty new
Utopia Cafe, in Chinatown on Waverly (alley) between Washington and Clay (Waverly is between Grant and Stockton) -- some of the best place for Claypot entrees. The rice claypots are a definite must-try.
And yet ANOTHER claypot place...
Taishan Cafe, Clement at 12th Ave -- Taishan style claypot, similar to Cantonese, but flavored slightly differently. They also have other dishes as well, and this place is quite economical.
The last two are actually in Daly City:
King Wah, on Southgate, behind the Westlake Shopping Center, next to the library -- recently remodeled and greatly expanded, it now features some of the best Chinese-style BBQ meat as well as some exclusive dishes, and cheaper than Koi Palace
Koi Palace, near Serramonte shopping Center, next to Outback Steakhouse -- very expensive, but has some of the best live seafood in town, and some of the best sharkfin, abalone, crab, and fish dishes
