it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want really quick, really cheap, and really good. I would say go buy yourself some ramen noodles. my favorite way to make ramen is to put the packet in the water right away, this will lower the boiling temperature of the water, so it will boil faster. as soon as you get a nice rolling boil, add the noodles along with a 1/2 bag of frozen vegetables of your choice. and keep on high heat until the ramen is cooked all the way through, but still slightly firm. (this is for two bags of ramen).
But of course you're probably not looking for ramen. so "goulash" is also amazing. This isn't actually goulash, but we'll call it that.
Here's what you do, get:
1 box elbow pasta or pasta of choice (12-16 oz.)
1/2- 1 pound of ground beef
2 cans of tomato sauce
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 can of chilli beans
1 tbsp. chilli power
1/2 tsp. of cayenne pepper
salt and pepper to taste
(mrs. dash also works great with this or anything else you can find in your cupboard).
Start salted water boiling (about 6-8 cups of water should do it)
the water should be heavily salted! bring to a boil and add in pasta and cook until "al dente" which means soft, yet firm. drain pasta and set aside.
Brown the meat in a large sauce pan or stock pot. when it is almost brown, add the salt, cayenne and chilli powder (do not drain the fat I will come after you if you do), stir until the meat is cooked all the way through. then add the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes.add in the pepper. (when pepper gets cooked it releases bitter flavors that you do not want) Heat until bubbles start to come to the top. add in the chilli beans, then simmer for about 10 minutes. add to the pasta and you have dinner.
This recipe should feed you for quite a while or feed at least 4 large guys. it reheats very well in the microwave and will last about a week in the refrigerator.
