YES!!! Performance Arts can really increase self-esteem for any age group, particularly while kids are growing up.
I was in ballet, tap, and jazz-- from age 3 to 13. At age 13, I became involved in the Junior HS band playing a saxophone. I was involved in theater and drama productions in High School.
Later in college, I was involved as a singer in a performance singing group and was involved in the College talent competitions and theater productions.
All of this builds self-esteem, particularly if you can see increased skill in each area of interest.
Not only does performance art improve your self-esteem but any art form and musical ability can increase self confidence. The trick is to be willing to be BAD at something long enough to become GOOD at it, before giving up. You need passion and drive, often times-- to stick something out. Pick something that you LOVE to do-- and you will stick things out through the difficult introductory learning curve, until you can master it!
