Well as far as Tuscaloosa goes, it's very sports oriented (Alabama Football), but the big name places with the big reputation are Rhythm and Brews (known for excellent live music and atmosphere), The Jupiter (supports big name acts like Sister Hazel and Better Than Ezra, and also has dance night, cheap drinks, and all you can eat wings on certain days. Definitely the largest in town), The Houndstooth (a traditional, freshly painted sports bar that would bleed crimson and white), and Wilhagens (Excellent restaurant by day, bar by night).
Otherwise, there are many others around to tickle your fancy. For example, Little Willies is next door to Wilhagens, and last time I went in there they had specials on wine and had an easy listening jazz duet. There's not too many bars you'll find someone playing a flute on stage.. You also have a place like Egans, which is the alternative feel good crowd. No football, just music and good times.
There are really too many to list for fear of forgetting one, but lets say if you tried to stop at every place on your night out, you'd come up short a few stops, and probably be to exhausted to carry on.
There are many places all around town. I can guarantee you would not be disappointed with what you find. Its a drinking town with a football problem!
