Top 5 tips for New horseback riders..........
1.) Know your horse. Know his habits and behaviors. Like does your horse kick at others. Doesnt like being crowded. Where is he most comfortable in a group.
2.) Dont expect to get out there on the trail the first day.
3.) Always work your horse from the ground, no matter how broke you think he is. Its good to get some of the "fresh" out of them before you climb aboard.
4.) Know your abilities and have confidence in your riding abilities. If a trail may be too long or technical for you or your horse know when to decline to go on the ride.
5.) Work on his manners both on the ground and in the saddle.
6.) have good riding habits and trail etiquette, and know what that means . No crowding other horses or riding up on the backside of the horse in front of you dont run your horse up on the back side of a group your likely to see and be the cause of a trail rodeo.
7.) know what to wear on the trail. the trail is no place to have a "fashion show" long pants long shirt light jacket close toes boots always dress for the elements and the approiate time of year.
8.) BE PREPARED for anything . have a 1st aid kit for you and your horse, have plenty of water and maybe a snack or too you never know if you may just get stuck out there longer than you had expected.
