Sports Etiquette is getting better among players but between the fans it is getting increasingly worse. Especially here in the Philadelphia market. Most fans are familiar with the Philly fan's anger towards oppisiton, and the incidents that have happened. Nobody can forget the fans pelting Santa Clause with snow balls, or attempting to hit Barry Bonds with batteries and bottles. Most recently a fan was beaten to death after a game. Everyone going to any Philly sports event will warn you not to wear the wrong colors. It better be Eagles,Flyers,Sixers, or Phillies, or you could be facing off in the stands or the parking lot with a bunch of overzealous fans.Just last night there was a case of what I call home on home violence. After the Flyers had a 5-2 victory over the Devils some fans that had taken a bus to Jersey to watch the game got on board and some differences in oppinion over the game with four Flyers fans resulted in the stabbing of two other fans. Now that passion for your sport and your team. It is sad enough to know you cant favor another team aat a Philly event, but to know you may not be safe as a "homer" that really begins to get scary. In each league they have taken steps to eliminate violence with roughing, fighting, tripping, unsportsmenlike conduct, etc..penalities but what can we do to the fans? The Eagles were one of the first teams to put a holding cell and judge in place in their stadium for fans who got out of hand, but the violence is getting worse in all sports with the fan base. I predict soon we will see events like in European soccer games where the fans destroy the arenas and hundreds get hurt becasue either fans get to excited or irate. To bad it not like on the field where a fan can turn to an appossing fan, shake their hand, and say "good game" !
