Here are 5 things you need to know after you get your degree and credential because that is the easy part.
- You have to be a good mutli-tasker. Can you be a mom, psychologist, data analyzer, police officer, educator and good natured- patient human?
- If you work in a public school make sure you work in a state that has a strong union presence. I work in Arizona and they are a right-to-work state which means we do not get paid enough and they ask us to do too much.
- Be quick witted if you work in a public school because the students are quick and sometimes rude- I use a lot of sarcasm. Sometimes it is controversial method.
- Make sure you follow the teacher credential program in your university and check your state website for new requirements because they change all the time.
- When you interview for a job- ask questions like what is the discipline policy of the school? Have examples of situations that happen and how that district might react. It is good to know the expectations of the district and the culture your entering. The professionalism of some districts are non-existent.
