After i lost my initial blog2 u to answer the above question, i got sidetracked. It was a good thing, in retrospect, bcause i realized ,later, that it was way too long. so i had to decide on ONE aspect. here goes:
Where can u grow a cactus,a norfolk island pine tree, a lemon tree, an apple tree and a succulent in the same place? No map or globe needed...in your yard, in Avila Beach. That's what struck me green, when i moved here. I have lived in many parts of the US and i ,pretty much, know that pine & apple trees grow in cold climates or mountainous regions. Avila Beach is not Maine nor is it Colorado,so i was quite puzzled by this phenomenon. I remarked to everyone who lived here..they just smiled in agreement; more like a beam than a smile.
I went to the botanical gardens, by luck, and found out that there are only about 4 places in the WORLD, that support this kind of plant life. I knew that something was very different about the variety of plants species, growing side by side, here. I got my proof, but i had already fallen in love, with Avila..anyway
