I know that this question was posted a long time ago, but I saw it in the sidebar of one of my Hubs and thought I should give a go at answering it.
Raiding money for a film is always a difficult thing whether you are raising the money yourself, or looking for money sources for loans or investments.
If you are trying to raise a modest amount of money, a few thousand dollars or less, you can do many things. Some of the simpler ways are to have car washes, garage sales, a paper route, and things like that. It will take time, but those are serious money sources.
You can even (and I have seen this done for other things) stand on the street corner with a sign saying what you need money for. People will actually give you money if you are fund raising in that fashion. Be honest about it though. Don't pretend to be homeless.
Okay, those are some of the more unconventional methods of raising money. Here are some others:
You can go to Ask.com and this story on fund raising: http://nonprofit.about.com/od/onlinefundraising/tp...
It will give you a good over view of what to do to raise funds via the Internet.
Short of putting together a script, prospectus, and business plan for shooting the film and searching for someone to fund it, this may be your best bet.
If you want to find a backer, you can look at Websites like Gobig which bring together backers and those in need.
Most, if not all of these sites are fee based and can be expensive, although, if you get the suggestion from Gobig and can find the place by looking in the phone book (which I have done before) you can use them without the expense.
I hope this has given you a few leads to follow. I wish you the best!
