Prayer. There is nothing as powerful as prayer to lift oneself beyond the state of the here and now. The basis of Faith is in believing in something outside of the limits of our everyday physical function. With the introduction of Darwinism and Humanism, the need for prayer has been minimalized, being attributed to simple imagination, or worse, some form of social manipulation.
But prayer is more than that. It is a connection with an energy which flows through all people and all things. This energy is the basis for elemental matter, such as atoms and molecules which comprise our environment. It is an energy of structure, of order, and of connection. In religion, it is called Spirit.
Prayer connects us to this Spiritual energy, not through some wide or untargeted concentration on simply NOT thinking, which is the tendency of meditation. It is a directed thought open to answers from the Spiritual energy, and a direct inquiry to that energy for guidance, information, or relief.
