My experience as a child was in a small town of about a thousand people, if you counted the dogs and cats. :-)
Privacy was nil, but the sense of love was strong indeed.
I cut my knee on a broken pop bottle in the city park and really opened an artery. Within five minutes, I not only had three neighbors to help slow the bleeding, but the County Sheriff and the Chief of Police were there before the ambulance. My first girl friend and I were alone in the park at the time. See what I mean?
As a Chaplain with PROJECT BLUELIGHT, I spent an entire career looking for and returning missing children. That experience reinforced for me the importance of small town ethos.
Each of us may only relate from our experience.
If you permit, I will pray for you and your children?
