cheap car insurance

Updated on February 26, 2008

Car Insurance is serious business. It isn't something that should go in one ear and out the other like some Britney Spears site. Sometimes the companies that offer the cheapest car insurance are not as well known. The well known car insurance companies generally cost more because they spend millions of dollars on glitzy TV commercials and other advertisements. I have done the research for you, so here are some companies that offer the cheapest car insurance.

Geico Commercial

1. Geico

"15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance" We have all heard the commercial, and in this case the slogan is somewhat accurate. Year after year Geico continues to offer some of the lowest premiums in the car insurance industry. Under the leadership of legendary investor Warren Buffet has remained focused on delivering low prices for decades. Yes their trademark Gecko is kind of cool, but what consumer like most about Geico is it cheap car insurance.

Approximate annual premium for a 28 year old male in Chicago, IL driving a new Toyota Camry: $1,034.

2. Allstate

Best known for it ads featuring actor Dennis Haysbert ( He plays the president on 24) Allstate has some good prices to match their great TV ads. Based out of Northbrook Illinois, this company proves that being in good hands doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Approximate annual premium for a 28 year old male in Chicago, IL driving a new Toyota Camry: $1,068.

3. Progressive Auto

Out of all the big insurance companies I checked out Progressive has the most useful website. They have a blog called "Understanding Insurance" that has all kinds of helpful articles, and when I read it I thought that it was really giving me quality information and not just trying to scare me into buying their insurance. Here is the link: http://www.progressive.com/understanding-insurance/when-should-you-drop-collision-coverage.aspx

This is just one article, but there are links to a lot more articles in the middle of the page.

4.Nationwide

Nationwide may be on your side, but they aren't going to offer you a great price. Their prices aren't terrible, but why pay the extra money when you could get insurance from geico or Allstate? That said, they have the funniest insurance commercial I have ever seen. This commercial isn't about car insurance but you still want to watch it. I think Kevin Federline would have had a more successful music career if he had released this song as his first single.

Approximate annual premium for a 28 year old male in Chicago, IL driving a new Toyota Camry: $1,264.

5. Liberty Mutual

Whatever you do don't buy insurance through liberty mutual. Who wants to over pay for car insurance by 50%?

Approximate annual premium for a 28 year old male in Chicago, IL driving a new Toyota Camry: $1,675.
